I have it on windows in my north Florida home. Makes the house too dark. My wife took it off some of the windows.

Bought a roll of window film from Home Depot, cost about $175, installed myself in a couple of days.
|
I used it in my Phoenix AZ home and it cut down sun and heat tremendously, well worth the cost.

What difference did you find? Less heat coming through the glass? Was your a/c working less? I've read through all the posts and only 2- people said it worked and 1- said it didn't? How many people noticed a major difference? One person I spoke to said his friend had it installed and he was able to put a heat gun on the glass and the inside stayed cool? |
No good for me . Makes the house too dark.

window block
My husband did it in our home and it makes a great relief in the temperature right at our dinig table,. We explained to the man at Home depot what we needed it for and he suggested the type to use. Cost about 60.00 rather than the 195.00 we were quoted:pepper2:

Couple houses in our neighborhood have this on their windows and we don't like the look of it. First time I saw it I thought my neighbors had moved away and the house was empty!

I guess what I'm asking is not so much this particular tint product from 3m, but tinting your windows in general.
Is tinting your windows worth the time and money? Does tinting make a significant difference to justify the cost? |
We had an estimate from a rep from 3M and for a quarter of the price had The Solar Guys install exactly what we wanted....not the heaviest but keeps out the hot sun. Very satisfied.
|
When we had our house built in Melbourne, FL in 1998, we ordered tinted windows which worked great compared to neighbors who did not order them.

We also used Larry who lives in TV mentioned in a previous post and are very satisfied. He carries a variety of products and shades from light to dark depending on how much sun a window receives. Larry also has 3m and other products he re om ends but is not pushy in any way to make a deal. He gives a warranty and leaves the necessary little opening required. We wouldn't trust ourselves installing it for that reason. He has a list of customers so you can see it installed beforehand and talk to customers.

Where's Larry?

Is he still doing the installs? Maybe he's a snowbird? Does anyone have a contact of another 3m contractor other than the solar guys? Thx |
Please note that adding a film to your windows or sliders DOES void the warranty on them. Our home is 9 years old and we bought pre-owned 6 years ago. The previous owners had film installed on all windows and doors. One of the sliders in the dining room developed a haze and in checking with The Villages, we learned it was still under warranty. Ro-Mac came out to replace and once they saw that film had been installed, informed us that the installation voided the warranty and we had to pay to replace the door :(
