We are snowbirds and Directv has the best vacation plan.When we head north we put the service on vacation,no fees are charged and no fees to reconnect.They have a great price for the first 12 months and a good price for the 2nd 12 months.After that I will look at Comcast and Centurylink.
For internet we use Centurylink DSL ,works well with Directv.Cost $35 per month and $15 per month when on the vacation plan.
We do not have a land line in TV.Verizon cell phones work great.

We've been with Directv for six years and have never had a service call. They are also the only ones that have NFL Sunday Ticket, every NFL game is available to see on Sunday instead of 1 or 2 local teams.

We signed up for DIRECTV at Costco and got a rebate. The service since January and DIRECTV has bent over backwards in providing customer satisfaction. We need a remote that headlight buttons and they sent one additional remote at no charge. We decided that we want to pick up the MH a Z channel which requires a separate dish on the international satellite and after a little bit of discussion DIRECTV decided to install it for free. The remote programming of the Genie is great. We can be somewhere and I want to record a program for later and I log on through the iPhone and hit the record button in the DIRECTV app and presto it's there when you get home.

That's exactly when you need it with a hurricane approaching and you want to watch weather updates. You may have 12 hours of storms prior to the actual hurricane and you don't want to be without weather updates and radar. Watching taped shows is fine and dandy but may leave you unprepared.

We have a weather radio that will keep us updated, and it can run on batteries. Chances are cable would go out too, especially if you lose electricity.

We've had Direct TV for 10 years in both Georgia and Florida. Very Satisfied.

Two nights ago in that tremendous lightning storm in the Tamarind Grove area, we lost DirecTV for all of about 12 minutes. I'll certainly put up with that rather than deal with Comcast.

Have you ever had a hurricane approaching? You will get many hours of feeder bands (storms) coming in before the hurricane and without TV you will be without info and advisories. The coverage of comcast won't last throughout but would be much longer than DirectTV. I've been though hurricanes many times and will tell you having a TV picture is like you died and went to heaven. You wouldn't want to be without a TV picture. It's like your link to the outside world.

I get your point, but I personally would rather rely on our battery operated weather radio than television in the face of a hurricane or tornado. And who's to say DirecTV would go out?

Just stating my opinion of one of the reasons why we like DirecTV and don't feel that our connection is ever down for very long.

A couple of weeks ago, people were complaining that Comcast cable was down for a considerable amount of time. We've had Comcast in three different cities. None of it has been any better than satellite.
