Default Hertz and Enterprise Advice

I think these are the only two car rental companies in The Villages. I'm a member or AAA and AARP.
Does anyone have a strategy or tip for getting the best rate at either of these agencies? thank-you

I used the Enterprise office on 441 in Leesburg for better rate than one at Lake Sumter Landing which does not offer special weekend rates. Go through the websites for the rental agencies and see if they have special rates for AAA or AARP and if there are better rates nearby outside The Villages proper.

I always use Enterprise in LSL. I book on line. I get a small discount with AAA. The counter staff are great. They do pick you up and drop you off.

Avoid picking up within an hour of closing. Friday, Saturday and Monday are their busy days. Closed Sundays if that impacts you.

I know the manager at Hertz. He can not match the rates that you get online.
Find a "coupon code", like Retail Me Not and many other sites.
You'll be surprised that a discounted rate of $69/day can actually be had for $49/day when booked with the right code online.

And sometimes renting for 4 days is actually cheaper than just 3 days.

If you are able to travel outside The Villages, we have used Budget in Leesburg on 441 South. It's only 20 minutes away and have gotten great rates using AARP.

Enterprise at LSL usually has a week day deal for 38 bucks for 24 hours if you get the compact car and book online . Best of luck!

Costco and Sams have discount programs, too, if you are a member. We have been pleased with folks at enterprise in LSL.

I booked online twice with Enterprise in TV. I showed up to get the car and was told that they had no car for me. They looked at me like I was crazy for thinking I could book online only 2 days in advance. The next time, I booked online a week in advance, using USAA discount. Showed up and they raised the rate on me. No more Enterprise for me.

One other thing to be aware of.........

Not related to prices, but when we moved here 3 years ago, my wife flew down to meet the movers, while I drove down. We had reserved a mid-size car at Hertz (here in TV), weeks in advance. When she went to pick up the car, the only thing they had was a very tiny little Fiat, not much bigger than our golf cart. If she had really needed a larger car, she would have been out of luck. Unlike at most airports, where the rental agencies have a larger fleet, the available cars here probably varies from day-to-day.
