Not sure how the fine money is split up in Florida. In Pennsylvania, before I retired the town received $12.50 of a paid traffic fine. Half of the citations issued, the drivers asked for a hearing. Officer attended the hearing received 4 hours overtime, appoximately $150.00. As you can see it actually cost Pennsylvania towns money to issue citations. No cash cow there !!!!!!!!!

people who obey the limit don't get tickets so I'd say that the tickets are probably justified....it is just a short distance after all!

On the subject of speeding tickets, did you know in Florida, since July 1, 2013, you can be ticketed for driving too slow if you are in the "passing" lane and driving slower than the posted speed limit by 10 mph or more. The fine is $60.

I don't know about Florida but here in Ohio if no children are present irregardless of the flashing lights the regular speed limits are in effect. Like the Friday after thanksgiving no kids, lights flashing, regular speed limit. Also be aware that all of Belvedere from the gate to 466 is a school zone during posted hours. No flashing lights. I do see many kids crossing to get to the library.

Yep, deputy was sitting across from the High School this afternoon around 2:30pm. Had the hand held radar gun pointed out his window at all who passed by. It's simple, go the speed limit and you won't get a ticket. If you are in a hurry, find an alternate route.

No, I'm not kidding. I leave the house quite often, at least every day, in both my golf cart and my car and I don't think that I've ever seen LEOs with radar around here.

I don't under the two replys about kids going to the library. The entire quote wa about school zones on Route 466. Are you saying kids are crossing Route 466 and if so, which library ??

I still like the idea of the deputies getting out of their cars, without the radar and standing in the actual roadway, This accomplishes everything, traffic control for any kids crossing the highway, it will also definately slow traffic and the best part is that no one get a ticket and finally the deputies get a little much needed exercise. This is how it is done near the Daily Sun facility and it :a040::a040::a040:works exceedingly well.

The kids use the sidewalks on 466 by Buffalo Glenn Softball Complex. Regardless it is school zone. Speed limits are for everyone safety in those zones. Why the commotion, relax, have some coffee, do the speed limit and you have no problems...

That is like saying the speed limit on B.Vista is 35. But it should be 45, so why do the SCSO patrol that so much north of 466. It is what it is.

Florida School Zones

A school zone is just that a school zone...even if the kids are not crossing there it is still a zone..been that way for ever...it works until you get some yahoo trying to buck the system when they are late for something bobbing and weaving thru the line...obey the limits, obey the signs and that radar gun will stay off you!

Opus stated that all of Belvedere from CR 466 to the Gate is also a school zone with kids crossing (Belvedere) to get to the Library.

Warren, I think the overwhelming consensus is that drivers in the vicinity of the Charter School should slow down, obey the laws, and keep the kids safe!

I am a firm believer that the gov. doesn't care about you or your children so yes it is a school zone and yes it is a way to make money for the county. I grew up without the benefit of school zone and I had to learn to watch for cars and stay aware of my surrounding and keep myself safe.

Warren: I have read all of the posts and despite all the intellectualizing the fact is that the cops do stand heavy here. I saw a guy chased by the cops just the other day. You are also correct in that for the greater portion of the school zone you will not find kids crossing yet the school zone stretches quite a ways.

finally Warren by now you should have recognized that TOTV has the Gang of the politically correct and as such they always default to PC if they view it as a slight toward The Villages . Please don't get mad at them its an involuntary reaction.

I can't remember if there were school zone signs when me and Martha Washington walked to school, or even cars, but I think that slowing down in the area where schools are is a good idea, just to practice a little self control.

I can't see how agreeing with that idea would be politically correct or incorrect. It is a rule. Follow it. OR
