Home theater with big subwoofers
Hey so my wife and I own a home in TV but live and work full time Northwest of Chicago. I just took a look around the house and...I've got 8 subwoofers and 1 is under construction in the garage (18" ported) We live in the boonies and when we're watching "Top Gun" or pretty much any movie these days, we aren't bothering anyone. But....I've noticed it gets really quiet in TV at night. Like freakishly quiet in a good way. How do you guys watch movies so....quietly? When we turn up the boom boom it rattles the siding on our house up north. It's important to us for our neighbors not to hate us....but we like the bass. How are you guys handling this issue? I'm sure I'm not the only basshead in the villages (?) Thanks

Simple ... wireless headphones are commonly used. I have a pair, myself.

Headphones and a bass shaker is something I've thought about...the sound quality is good and you can feel the low frequencies without disturbing anybody so...yeah that's a good idea

Yup, wireless headphones, they are the best. A movie theatre in your own head. Great for lanai's too, the neighbors will really love you!

Your thread title sounds like my brother's first wife.
Seriously, I had read somewhere that there were sound ordinances in certain Villages. Is this true? |

Read your deed restrictions, it explains them. I would assume all districts have some sort of "rules" but I haven't read all. The 3 I have looked at do - mostly common sense stuff though. |

IMO If you haven’t lost you’re some hearing yet, you in for big surprise when you get older. The noise level no matter what can’t disturb you’re neighbors between hours of 10 PM to 7AM. Most older generation in bed by 9PM and About 9 pm the street are pretty much bare in most neighborhoods. Houses are too close down here for sub woofers.
I can hear my neighbors a/c whining up and down and pool pump. What music or movies to most is noise to others. Don’t be one of them neighbors that break the rules in very close housed community. We’ve got enough of them neighbors IMO. IMO FURY beats them all coming from theater grade sound systems with bone rattling noise. |

When I crank up my home theater, I just make sure to have the windows and doors closed and do so before 10 PM. Most of the houses here are pretty well insulated for heat but that same insulation helps for audio too. As far as bothering neighbors, that has not so far been a problem. However, that may be partly due to the fact that I have had my closest neighbors over for "movie nights". Once they've experienced and enjoyed a decent home sound system, folks are often more tolerant of a bit of "sonic spillover" when I'm cranking it up a bit.
