There were two burglars in someone's home and they ran when the homeowners came back after having been gone a half an hour. All's well that ends well and fortunately the LEO's here caught the two gypsy burglars from last month. I believe in second amendment rights too, but some folks just love to boast about what macho men they are.

I am sure that many homeowners have guns and know how to use them and know when to use them and that makes me feel safe. I am a little concerned about people who appear eager to show off.

Common sense that is all, common sense. We are not in some nasty crime ridden place, Thank God. NOT YET.

Excellent post ! :bigbow:

I read comments like " if I see robbers I'll just run away and let the police handle it" or "is anyone's property worth the life of a human being" it just makes me sick to my stomach. I had no idea some folks were so gutless down here.....No wonder crime rates in this nation have gone crazy.

The trouble is that common sense isn't so common anymore and, it is distorted by just about everything that happens now-a-days. The situation dictates the action one must take.

Thanks, GC.

Best option in my book would be if you have a cell phone start talking pictures and send them somewhere save as soon as possible.

I still remember the gun toting woman I know who heard a noise in the middle of the night, pulled out her revolver from the night stand, and shot her vacuum cleaner. Probably made her dog happy as he would not have to hear the vacuum cleaner for a while.

In the ten and a little years I have been in the Villages, I only remember maybe one instance when armed intruders came into a Villagers' home and these were actually friends of their live-in daughter who got into drugs.

Maybe, there were others that I have forgotten.

In Palm Harbor, I used to house sit for a couple who told me to mind the garden as a couple of bank robbers had possible tossed their weapon into it after being corned on the roof next door. This was at night if I remember correctly and the police chopper had a very intense light on the house next door. The sirens had woke up my old house sitting clients. The neighbor hood they are in has two law enforcement officers a few doors down on one side and up a few on the other.

The nearby middle school was also on the look out for where the wayward pistol may have gone.

Never knew what happened to the weapon of the bank robbers.

How did everyone miss the story, Sunday's Sun, p.A23, two women mugged by an armed robber at Spanish Springs????

They didn't miss it. They just don't want to believe it.

By luck that worked out for those woman. I told my wife to hand over her purse if that happens to her. I also bought her a non-lethal stun gun. The situation will dictate it's use.

There are apps that will send the picture to whomever you want automatically as soon as you take it, provided you have an opportunity to take a picture which is unlikely in most cases.

Bad choice to whip out your cell phone and start taking pictures. What if they are armed?. As they say, 'never bring a cell phone to a gun fight or even a knife fight'.

I would agree that the professionally installed alarm system is the best idea. When the alarmed area is entered, an 85db alarm sounds inside the house and a 120db alarm with flashing strobe outside goes on. No burglar is going to enter that property. He runs off!

They were approached by an armed robber and they screamed and the bad guys ran away, just to keep the facts straight.

NOT mugged. Although it has happened. A couple bad people mugged a villager and grabbed her purse near Target a year or so ago. The three counties law enforcement worked together, used security camera footage and hunted them down in Orlando and they are now in the slammer. It wasn't their first rodeo.

eremite06 03-15-2016 10:28 AM

Someone pulls a gun on you, I call that mugged. "to waylay and assault with intent to rob."
