If you are now becoming full time residents check Florida "Save Our Homes" legislation. That's the biggy! Don't know about here but lots of snowbirds in other parts of FL try to cheat on their property taxes by claiming they are FL residents and they are not. You can also check to see how FL Tax Collectors catch them and the unpleasant penalties that are applied. Welcome to Florida.

I'm still a Maine resident and working in that state. My wife is a Florida resident. Can she apply for homestead program.

According to my research, one person of a joint owned property may become a permanent resident of the State of Florida and if that person meets all requirements of residency, would be able to obtain the Homestead Exemption of up to $50,000 of value of the property in Florida.
