As noted by Andrew Blechman, The Villages is like a Club Med for (senior) adults. It could be anywhere. I am attracted to The Villages for its lifestyle. No other retirement community on earth compares.

I have determined that if I am to be happy where I reside I need to dwell on the positives, not the negatives of the area, climate and community.

My question.....can anyone who has lived in Arizona and also lived in Florida compare the lack of humidity vs. the high prolonged humidity ?

Our minds have been made up for quite some time re THE VILLAGES, however, recently we've had prolonged periods of very heavy rains, thunderstorms and soupy, swampy, oppressive humidity that is as thick and unrelenting as Fla. humidity..........and painful re body stiffness.

This too shall pass "in Vermont" when the cold front comes in soon.....but we can't even take three days of this oppressive humidity.......actually, they are now predicting several inches of SNOW up in the spine of our Green Mountains.......which everyone has to cross if they want to get from the western side of the state to the eastern side of the state.....

I've had the airconditioning on up here, even though it is only 62 degrees; to take out the 90% humidity.

Crazy weather for sure. We've had flash flooding and roads washed out, schools closed, etc..........even made Good Morning America's news this a.m. It wasn't that long ago tha Hurricane Irene devastated Vermont with its flooding.........

So, DRY HEAT .........as opposed to HUMID HEAT??? Thank you in advance....for personal experience in Arizona, etc.

I haven't read any of the other responses but we lived in Tucson for 8 years in the late 70's and mid 80's....and if it were not for my Grandkids living in CT and NJ, we would be back in Tucson in a New York Minute living up in the Catalina Foothills just above Skyline Belair and enjoying every moment of it. The Villages is wonderful but Arizona is better for us. We loved it there...Tucson is a cosmoploitan city with a University, Symphony, and all the cultural amenities. Dry Heat v. Wet Heat..I will take dry any time. No hurricanes, no tornadic activity, no sinkholes, etc....August out there is nasty but the rest of the year is a dream come true. We had a wonderful time there and hated to leave when IBM shipped me back to HQ. Our kids had the best elementary experience that there could have been. It was all good for us and we continue to have long term friends there.:beer3:

i have a brother in law who relocated to las vegas; oh yeah, it is a dry heat. i got news for you, it is like being in HELL! when one cannot even go outdoors in the summer, not even to enjoy a dip in the pool, and not use your lanai...then it is just ridiculous. and it gets cold!! in the winter...there is ice there.
no thanks, TV and Florida is lovely all year.

Agree totally with you. When I was in Vegas it was 116 degrees.
I will take Florida any day!

We have done both and we prefer Florida.

My parents retired to Sun City West, AZ. It was lovely most of the time, but the summers.....wow! A sauna is a sauna is a sauna!

Having lived in both ..... I'd say neither.

I've had projects in Phoenix, including some summers. Much prefer Florida. The evening breezes in the summer are wonderful. Not to be found in AZ.

Diane, don't you live in a The Villages? It sounds like you are not happy here. I'm sorry for that. It's not often that people don't come here and just love it. I do hope you find a great place to live that suits you. We absolutely love it here coming from New York State. It's a dream come true.
