Living in the Village of Santiago near the Savannah Center, we will use the cart to go as far North as CR 42; as far East as OB Hills, Lowe's and the old Walmart; as far West as the Walmart on CR 466; and as far South as Sumter Landing; rain or shine! Any further than that, we will generally use the car.

We use a cart to go pretty much anywhere. If I am shopping it’s a car. But we are on the younger side, and we enjoy taking our time getting places.

In one day I have gone to 5 different rec centers for classes.

I agree 100%. For example, I grew up in St. Petersburg, which is somewhat limited in land because it's a peninsula with Tampa Bay to the east and south and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Kind of like TV with 44 to the south and 441 to the east. Here's a home for sale right now on zillow in St. Pete built in 1941. It sold in 1995 for $120K, it is now under pending sale for $525K. I could post a hundred more just like that, it's supply and demand.

As far as the OP's question, my golf cart only leaves the garage when I play golf. Tomorrow it will be going to Belle Glade, then it won't move again until I play next week. I prefer a car with A/C, XM Radio, and it's faster. The thrill of driving a cart gets old after a few months. Also when you're in the car, it doesn't limit your decisions on where and when to go somewhere. We can eat on 466 at Red Lobster and 15 minutes later be shopping at Kohls on 441/27 and swing by Neighborhood Walmart on the way home. All in a days of driving in TV.

We'll go to Oaks Mall in Gainesville about once a year, Florida Mall in Orlando about once a year, and Paddock Mall in Ocala about 3 or 4 times a year, Wiregrass Mall and Tampa Premium Outlets in Wesley Chapel about once a year. That's our area of shopping outside TV. In June we also went to Seaworld in Orlando and Busch Gardens in Tampa as far as attractions.

Our cart is now 5 years old and just reached 25 K. We came here with 2 cars. Big mistake. We barely needed one.

Default How Far Do You Travel

Not sure this would count, but my wife and I on 2 separate occasions rented for 3 months during winter months. We were in Tamarid Grove area and seemed to be out daily on the cart, from SS to BW. A year later our second 3 month rental we decided to track our cart mileage and ended up with 1,800 miles for a 90 day stay. Wow 20 miles a day average.

As far as falling home prices go, by the time we or our estate has to get rid of our home purchased in 2013, there will be a lot more homes in TV than retirees to buy them !! Not that it will really matter in 20-25 years , at 85-90, if we make it that long it will be my children's decision, and any sale will be a windfall to them. Que sera sera.... Enjoying TV to the fullest until such time comes

How true! My work commute is 24 miles one way in suburban Chicago traffic. Morning commute 1 hour (if I am lucky). Evening commute usually 1 hour 20 minutes. Winter weather - add 30-40 minutes. Just another reason to move to TV someday...

I sure do not miss big city traffic.

I only use the golf cart to go as far as Sumter Landing and maybe for a special occasion to Spanish Springs. We are in Lynnhaven about one mile south of the Villages High School. The Polo Field, Walmart, Southern Trace Shopping Center, Culvers are also frequent stops. Usually in the golf cart unless it is thundering or expected to be thundering during the trip.

We live South of 466a and we enjoy the golf cart cruise to Bone Fish and to SS.

"Enjoy the Journey."

Looking forward to the three hour ride down to Disney some day.

Nothing is really too far here in The Villages. We're retired. What else are you going to do , sit home in your recliner and watch Fox News? We broaden our scope and try to use our golf cart to go where ever it's allowed. I'd like to sell the car and rent one from Enterprise I LSL if I need one. They pick you up and drop you off, Duh!

Live S/O 466 will go wherever I can legally take my cart. Always time for a nice ride.
