We almost never go to the Squares to listen to music because it is too loud.

Occasionally we will be at a Square when the music starts and we will listen to a song or two, but that's about it.

We were at Lake Sumter a few days ago when the music started. It sounded like some kind of Latin American music with a bunch of horns, so we got out of there.

I'm sorry I missed it. I would have enjoyed that.

Usually we try to get there at least once a month, more often when our cousins come to visit (they have a house right outside the Villages, they come once every 2-3 months for a week). It's a fun atmosphere, and I love dancing.

By my unofficial observations, it seems like most people at the squares are either visitors or renters.

I don't know how you can tell that they're renters. Or visitors, for that matter.

I see a lot of locals, folks I don't know personally but who I see in the area, working, living, attending events and activities at the rec centers. There are also people who live in Lady Lake, who hang out at Spanish Spring Town Square, but don't live in the Villages. I think it's great. The town squares are not "Villages private property," they're open to the public. Friends and family and fans of the various bands come to listen and dance, people from all over the tri-county area show up to celebrate and enjoy.

We run into my cousins' neighbors often there - they live in a 55+ mobile home/RV park a bit east of The Villages. Always fun to see them, they're good folks.

And for those complaining that it's too loud - turn your hearing aids down. It's no louder than it was when you first moved in.

When I was on my lifestyle and short-term visits last year, I was at the squares pretty much every night, as the whole concept was very “novel” to me. I would open the Daily Sun each morning, see who was playing at each square that night, and drive or take my cart to that square ( a few times I made an appearance at all 3 squares the same night).

Once I moved here, I was going to the squares probably 4-5 nights per week for the first few months, and sampled most every band, and rated each on my phone, quickly determining which ones I preferred more than others.

Once I knew who my favorite bands were, I started just waited for them to appear at the square closest to me (Brownwood).

Then, I sorta stopped going to some that previously “were” one of my favorite bands, as the order of songs played, and even the “schtick” and “banter” between songs became repetitive, and almost identical to previous times.

7 months in, I’m down to maybe going to the squares once a week, and sometimes once every-other-week. I have found going out is more about sitting and socializing with my friends and neighbors, vs which band is playing (though I still have my handful of bands that I will make an attempt to see - just don’t want to “OD” on them).

Curious about how often others get out to the squares at night.

Never. The squares are too crowded & full of old people trying to act as if in their 20's (or drunk or both). and the 3rd rate bands are on a par with a garage band or a wedding band.

Yes it is.

We used to be able to sit in the square and enjoy some of the music, but now the music is much louder.

One time at Lake Sumter we parked in the lot behind Toojay's and walked to the lake to listen to the band. We didn't like the music so we decided to leave but it was too loud to walk through the Square. We had to walk all the way around the Visitor Center and cut through an alley just to avoid the noise.
