Tuesday through Thursday , around the middle of the month, later in the day.
That's the best time to go. We'd read that, and had to go twice (once for each of us) and there was no line -- step right up. First of the month, and early in the day it can be crowded.

We found the information in the front pages of The Villages phonebook, a valuable resource. Go to ant tax collectors office. We used the one near Lake sumter landing. Bring money. Registrations for 1 car and 3 motorcycles cost $1,000 in 2018.

If you are already a Florida resident (I assume you are from Lee County Florida), you can do the driver's license address change online. I think it also allows you to register to vote in Sumter County.

Do not to forget to file your Save our Homes exemption if you are selling a house in Lee County you can transfer your Homestead exemption from there to here. It could save you significant money. Welcome.

Sounds like you are bringing a car to Florida, you will need to go in person with the car to the DMV as they will need to verify the odometer reading in person, and bring your check book, as I recall there was a ~$500 fee for bringing a car into the state of Florida, the antique car was less.

seems high I thought I read about $225

Why is there’s fee for bringing a car into the state? Shouldn’t it just be regular car registration? And if so, $500 is way too high, higher than California, unless it’s a new, super expensive luxury car.

Yes, you can just walk in at the gold-dome Sumter county building near Powell Road and CR 466a. I did it last year in May having a driver’s license from another Florida county. I can’t remember if I needed proof of new address. It took 10-15 minutes with no line for me. I went in the morning.

The building has other county government agencies, too, making it sort of a one-stop shopping for new residents such as voter registration, homestead exemption, and library card, all run efficiently.

Did you have to change plates?

No. In-state is essentially just the paperwork reflecting a change of address. It’s a smooth process for Florida in-state moves.
