If you have a Patio Villa, where is the best place to take shelter?

Master bedroom closet makes the most sense to us - no windows, no exterior walls adjoining it.

I wonder how many in The Villages have installed the Tornado Shelter in the floor of the garage, they have to be expensive but it would certainly keep you safe.

Default A good idea....

The next question would be if the Villages would allow something like that to be built? I have checked into those in the past as I was considering getting one when we moved down there. Would you need approval before installing?

I am sure you would need a building permit which I like since an inspector will sign off that it was built to the engineering specifications. We live in Sumter County and needed a permit for attic fans and solar tubes so this would certainly require a permit. I do not think ARC approval would be required since it is indoors but I could be wrong.

Are the fire sirens sounded to alert people to get in there, especially during sleeping hours of the night?

Yes, we signed onto the sheriff's office phone alert system and that is good. But I think sirens are better to alert everyone including those who don't know about the phone alert.

Are you kidding me? With winds going over 180 mph? Underground is the only place to go, these places got flattened. The Vietnamese made concrete manhole inserts to dodge American bombers. That would be the best remedy.

Default ef4

if an ef4 tornado ever comes thur TV there will be more bodies than there are golf carts! Where are the shelters? This is not tornado alley like the areas that are being hit. However, anything can happen. My real worry is there are no funeral homes or cemeteries in TV. What do they do with the dead? Feed them to the gators? Oh well it wont be my worry!!

Not so worried about tornados, but what about a Category 5 hurricane. Been a long time since Florida has got hit. NOAA does not really do a very good job in call the shoots. Heard that NOAA stated only 12 named storms this year. Hope they get it right, could be that we are due for a good hit, which would do as much damage as a tornado. Hope that everyone has a plan and a BOB packed and ready to go, if needed.

Default NO worries bout Hurricanes

With a hurricane you have DAYS to get out of the way! With a tornado you have minutes or sometimes less,,,,

Shelters could help in a smaller tornado. They say they are rated safe for an F5 tornado, but after seeing what has happened in other parts of the country recently - you know it would never work. (Although there was an example where one had withstood a very strong tornado and everything else around it was destroyed).

The concrete below ground shelter would be nice, but don't think you can put something like that in Florida with that sandy base.

Guess you just need to go to the closet and pray for a safe outcome.
