Expense is one.
$1200 -$1400 for the latest and greatest cell phone, plus the price of a monthly calling plan is a joke.

I also see them as a adult pacifier that they stare into while your talking to them and go berserk when they lose them or leave the house without their stupid phone.

Don't get me wrong, if used correctly they are great, like keeping in touch with family
up north, checking in at the airport or hotel, checking prices etc.

Sorry, just my opinion

Relative to expense, this week I got a new iPhone SE for $400. It's very capable. No need whatsoever to go with the latest and greatest.

Relative to the adult pacifier, you can use it as you wish. The fact that others use it in unfortunate ways has no bearing whatsoever on what you would do. I don't see how these observations on others affect your decision whether to get one.

I can't live without it for the following reasons:

-- Emergency calls as others have said. If your car breaks down on the road, just call a friend or AAA. If you have a health emergency, just call 911. If you see another with a health emergency, just call 911. Etc., etc.

-- GPS. It's 15 minutes before the tee time and you can't find the starter shack, just use the GPS (Or call the starter shack). I use the cell phone GPS in the car/cart all the time.

-- Shopping. I go to the store to get the widget spouse wants, but there are 10 widgets of the description she wanted. Just send her a picture and ask what she wants. Or, just call and inquire what she wants.

-- Camera. I use it in so many ways:
-- Need a spare part. Just take a picture of the broken part and the unit it's in, and go to the store or internet with all the info you need to get a spare.
-- Time with friends. Nice to have a camera in my pocket for unforgettable moments.

-- And, then there's the phone always available.

PS, my wife and I have a rule that the cell phone never comes out when we're dining.

Ditto: I still use a flip phone. It's small, lightweight and will fit it any pocket. I use the phone only when I want to make a call. I do not want to be glued to any phone. It cost me only $120 a year.

Before cell phones became standard issue I carried a pager. Of course, pay phones were everywhere then. But I sure don't miss the times I had to use a tollway phone booth which usually doubled as a urinal.

No way. Love all the old detective, reporter, mystery, horror, adventure, series and serials (cliff hangers). And don't forget the comedies. Marx brothers, Laurel and Hardy and more.
Watching those movies is like a visit with old friends and family. Sometimes you will see stars, before they were stars (John Wayne, Lucille Ball).
In between movies TCM shows newsreels and shorts. I love seeing those too.
But back to Glenda Farrell as Torchy Blaine. The way she worked over Lt McBride was great.

and don’t forget the falcon series , I love when they show them , I like George Sanders as the falcon a little better then Tom Conway

Agree.

More sophisticated demeanor.
Fun stuff.

Wow!!! I'm shocked. I can't imagine that anyone would not want one of these amazing devices on their person at all times.

I don't believe that I know one person that doesn't have a cell phone. Mine has saved a life.

I hope everyone who has an older phone (i.e. most flip phones) will check what type of network it uses. If it is limited to 3G your phone will turn into a paperweight sometime in 2022, depending on the carrier you use.

It’s a B**** when you can’t come up with a intelligent response. No wonder you don’t carry a cell:1rotfl:

Your thoughts please

have always hated all school bells, alarms, whistles etc.
No call gets thru to me unless it's on my contact list.
That's what vm is for.

I used to do that (contacts only) until someone very close to me who lived alone wound up in the hospital and the call from the person who took them there went to voicemail at 1AM. As it turns out he sadly passed away and I just might have got there in time (4 hrs away) to say goodbye had I got the call. My father always had a phone with him but when he got sick his friend took him to the hospital he left it at home. While the "contacts only" feature works great I will never again use it. Couldn't go through that again. You never know who might need to contact you in an emergency from a non-contact list number.

Yep you guessed it, all cell phones are put in the box.
No answering calls, no texting

When we take our grandkids out to eat anywhere, they all know, first one to pull out the cell phone will be treating everyone else at the table to dinner, otherwise Grandpa picks up the tab....has not happened ONCE.:pray:
