This was my first Easter in TV. I had no idea it would be so difficult to find an Italian bakery to purchase our traditional Italian Easter wheat pie. I assumed Publix would have the wheat pie but unfortunately, they don't.

I looked in the online yellow pages and the phone book for Italian bakeries and to my utter surprise....there are none. What???? No Italian bakeries closer than Orlando??? I don't believe it.

I didn't try any of the other grocery store bakeries for the wheat pie but maybe I should have. I looked online at several recipes for the wheat pie and shuttered at how time consuming it is to make the pie. Yikes!!!

Anyone know where I could have purchased the wheat pie?

That is not unusual around here. I went to half a dozen area bakeries looking for just pecan rolls. Not only did they not have any, some places didn't even know what they were (Publix, Fresh Market).
Couple places tried to sell me "sticky buns". Like I didn't know the difference. I could understand Potica', it's only known mostly in the midwest I believe (I may be wrong as Russ says). My sister always makes us a few loaves and sends it to us in time for Easter breakfast. A tradition in out house from before our Grandmother's time. Toasted Potica' with butter and coffee. Ahhhhhhhhh!

Hard to find good Italian baked goods...crusty bread especially. Let me know if you've found a source.

My wife made all our favorites last week - Apizza Rustica(Cheese, Ham, & Salami) and - Rigotta Pie(orange & Lemon). Just like Mom and Aunt Jane!!!!

I'll be in big trouble if I tell her I got her some baking customers!!! They were good though...lunch today!

As an aside, she baked a Lemon Meriange pie for dessert at our neighbors tonight and its killing me sitting out there on the stove!!!

You must like coffee as I do. You mentioned you went to half a dozen area bakeries. Where are they? I don't see any bakeries listed in the yellow pages for TV or any nearby towns that I recognize. How far does one have to travel to go to an Italian or even a regular bakery?

I've had the Pizza Rustica. My brother in law bakes them every Easter for our family. My Mom never did the Rustica...just the wheat pie which is the desert. I have never made either of these pies but I would purchase the wheat pie in a local bakery in NJ. I did really miss it this Easter.

I'm not sure how large the Italian population is here in TV but from what I have seen in my travels....MOST EVERYONE loves Italian baked goods. You could clean up, Donna.

Coffeebean..I love to cook, especially all Grandmas recipes..She used to make macaroni with eggplant for the holidays..

OMG, my mouth is watering..She had so many recipes to die for..Ham puffs, they are little calzone shaped, with ham, mozzarella, eggs, etc...
