Default What do Villagers have against long-term renters?

I just recently moved here but wanted to rent for a year or two so that I could decide which village was the best fit. I told some people with whom I was playing bridge that I was in a long-term rental. I was immediately told how much they disliked renters; that had they known TV allowed long-term rentals they would not have moved here and on and on. Obviously, I found this extremely rude and it is making me have second thoughts about the "friendliest" hometown.

Don't people realize that the owner has factored in amenities, taxes, HOA fees and the like when charging the rent. In reality, we more than pay for our share.

So, I am curious why long-term rentals are in such disfavor (we obviously wouldn't get the best tee times for long so I can't believe that is the issue).

Maybe they meant to say they don't like the snowbirds because it's so hard to get tee times and you might as well forget going to a resturant for 4 months during the year.

I am going to be a renter. I will rent for the month of December 2007 to see if I like the place. However a 1 or 2 years try seems to stretch it to the max. Maybe it is because I like TV already.

I can't imagine why permanent residents would resent long-term renters or snowbirds. I truly don't understand it. If snowbirds were in residence 12 months a year, restaurants and tee times would always be difficult to get.

Yet, snowbirds pay their own way 12 months a year, even though they only use facilities for a few months a year. They pay amenities 12 months a year. They pay (large) tax amounts 12 months a year because they're not homesteaded.

And then they fly back where they came from and don't bother anyone.

Sounds like they had nothing else to complain about so they chose you.
I agree with "barefoot". They pay their way all year just like the rest of us, and are only in residence part of the year. Nothing wrong with that!!!!!! :dontknow: :dontknow:

WOW! If they don't like renters, they must really LOVE the landlords (even temporary ones)!!

I remember hearing comments from the sales folks we dealt with saying they limited the number of folks they allowed into property management as they (the developer I presume) wanted the neighborhoods to be filled with folks living there so the neighborhoods weren't deserted too much of the time. That's what they said, but I heard "We don't want to have an over-supply of rentals in the program" - I'm a skeptic I guess!

It's too bad people feel that there is a problem with renters, and I believe the "small minds" comment above hit the nail on the head.

Thanks! Sounds like these renter-hater people are in the minority, at least I hope so.

As to 1-2 years being a long time, let's just say I'm cautious. I like TV, it's just a question of where in TV I ultimately want to live. Since I'm coming in here with no family or friends to speak of, I thought a long-term rental would give me time to make friends and, hopefully, be able to find a home close to those I come to know and love.

:dontknow: Okay Fumar - I will bite. What does the Wake of the Red Witch have to do with long term renters? I remember the movie but don't understand the comparison.
