I doubt the company investing their $ to build this facility is planning on no one joining. I have a hunch they know what they are doing or they wouldn’t be in business regardless of any negative opinions !

There's enough pickle facilities around here.

Doesn't anyone like to skate for exercise?; figure skate, ice hockey league, pick-up hockey, open skating, even host ice dancing events.

It is cool to exercise in a chilled facility in the summer.

I expect that the business case could be made that the usage fees (ice time charges) will easily recoup the investment and operating costs.

Concessions (food, bar, snacks), pro shop, rental skates, advertising, would all add to the profit equation.

There are no facilities near by to compete with the business.

Even the VCS would benefit.

Thoughts?

Too bad there's such a hefty membership fee. I would have enjoyed a drop-in, or renting a court on rainy days.

There used to be a indoor facility and one of the neighboring developments open to anybody with cash, but it closed during the covid. Don't know anybody that payed to play there.

The Villages is also planning an indoor pickelball court to be built in the new Eastport center. Thus would be golf cart accessible.

We are inclined to think that TV is the center of the world, not so. I would think this center would cater to a younger crowd, professional crowd, who would like to be able to play after work, and I would go so far as to suggest the level of play will be well above what we see around here.

I was wondering why they never had one. Makes sense for rainy days, hot summer days, and evening hours... It would be very popular for the pickle ball players here.

Once upon a time there was a rink at the mall in Leesburg - closed - couldn't make money to stay open.

First thing I thought of - Bring ear protection. I can't imagine what the pinging noise level might be with multiple courses being played indoors. Bad enough outdoors!!

Indoor pickleball has already caught on in the frigid north and blazing hot Arizona. Played indoor tennis in the winter up North, had no choice. But here in FL I prefer the outdoors.

We have indoor courts in VA. at our club, Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club. The noise isn't that bad. No excuses for sun and wind.

It does seem high but I assume they've done their research.

If not enough full-time people sign up I have a hunch that there will be a special deal for non-member people to play, such as a per-hour court fee. We belonged to an indoor tennis facility in Minnesota. Paid members got first dibs on open courts and paid a small court fee. Non-members could play, subject to courts being open, but they paid a court fee something like four times the fee that members paid.

I wonder just how high the facility's liability insurance premiums might be.

Aside from some probable exceptions it would seem that geezers and ice skates can be a risky proposition.
