the failure rate or need for service for an induction unit is no worse than any cooktop by any manufacturer.

Twenty years of induction ownership spread over three different units (new home built) and not one service call (to date!).

Of course it does happen.

I do not have any personal experience with owning any form of induction cooking (range or cooktop), however, I love all the features that induction cooking can do.

You have been extremely lucky with your induction appliances. Consumer Reports doesn't have any really good reviews on any of them, most of which required repair or worse, within the first few years of ownership.

I have been cooking on an induction cooktop for the past twenty years....absolutely best way ever! I plan on putting one in the house we just purchased this year in TV. Go for it. You won't regret it.
