I recommend Tim Bascom to all my clients. He is Allstate but is a broker to many companies. He has never failed me yet (352) 753-1177

[QUOTE=kp11364;2251319]Hi all,

What home insurance companies are left in Florida? Are they writing policies for new owners? Can/will my realtor help out with getting a policy, or should I reach out to an insurance broker directly as I am looking (and if that's the case, any recommendations?)

Contact Jessica Pendry at

She’ll find you the best deal she can. I’ve used her with two houses.

We go through the Villages Insurance. They represents several companies and try to find you the best deal. For us, it was Travelers. Very few people in The Villages have flood insurance. Are you sure you want to get it???

USAA is expensive. New Hyundai cost me $1180 for 6 months.

Do this. We used HH Insurance in St Pete and are very happy with our rate.

It true. If you are not in a flood zone you still need it. You don’t need to be by a river or a lake either. If your agent doesn’t recommend it they don’t know about it. It really is a question of need or want.

Homeowner's insurance does not cover damage if we have heavy rains in a short time frame and water enters the home -- only flood insurance will cover that damage.

My car insurance (one vehicle 6 yrs the other 10+) from $850 to $1100 to $1,300 to almost $1,800 for the period just renewed. I’ve looked at coverages and deductibles - and I could maybe shave $100-$200 off but the trade offs are somewhat significant.

Other than only doing 1 car which is not practical for us right now, I’ve looked at some other quotes maybe slightly better but not significantly so. Yes, agree getting expensive.

The may not be writing due to Idalia - not sure about new policies but we’ve had ours at somewhat modest increments for the last 2-3 years here.

Yesterday, Gov. DeSantis said three more insurers are coming to Florida, but, didn’t say which ones

Well to me Florida is probably 2/3rds to 1/2 surrounded by water where hurricanes thrive & where Ins. companies get a lot of their business. I would say Florida is probably where 95 to 99% of hurricanes starts & when hurricanes tear up Florida every one pays the damages, don’t believe me just wait & see if 90% of Ins. rates go up even if your state never gets any kind of disaster!

Thanks!

We just booked with State Farm at a substantial savings. I heard AAA is good.

Reason for that probably has to do more with Hyundai being one of the most stolen cars in America.

Definitely do some checking around. There can be crazy differences. We were looking for our new home that currently requires flood insurance (FEMA maps not updated yet). The Villages Insurance was like $1400 for the house but another $2800 for the flood.

We went to Kin insurance. They were about $1800 for the home but less than $300 for the flood. I still don't get it, a $2500 difference for the flood quote. Anyhow, Kin has been pretty good customer service as we sign up.

Please verify, but I believe Kin self-insures their flood protection and is not the same insurance as from the Federal government. Not sure if this is a concern but should be known by the policyholder.
