Default Interview with an exotic car owner

When it comes to the classifieds page, Talk of The Villages sees a collection of unique items for sale on a regular basis from over 5,000 listings. However, once in awhile, we see something so rare that we love knowing more of the back story behind the item. Last week, user Pcovella posted his beautiful, yellow 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo on the site, and we had the opportunity to interview him about what it is like owning such an exotic car in The Villages, Florida.

Q: What made you interested in buying this particular car and model?

A: ...It was back in 2010, we were living in Stamford, CT. My 1984 Porsche was showing its age. It was time to get a newer car...

...I was interested in a Dodge Viper, but never saw one up close and personal...But when I looked closer, I was disappointed in the interior and the level of “creature comfort”...

A couple of weeks later, we were planning to go away for the weekend. In the meantime, I had seen an ad for sale by owner for a 2005 Lamborghini Gallardo in Brooklyn, NY...So Friday evening we went to see the car. The owner had a handful of very nice cars. But one had a cover on it. He removed the cover revealing this beautiful yellow Lamborghini Gallardo. For my wife it was love it at first sight. But Lamborghinis aren’t cheap. But my wife said if I wanted one, she would get me one for my birthday. Not a new one, of course.

The next couple of months, we looked at Gallardos for sale both locally and on the internet. I found one that I liked, that seemed to be priced fairly, but the car was in San Diego, CA. After negotiating with the dealer it was decided that I would fly to San Diego, with cashier’s check in hand, and if I liked it, I would buy it. But I wasn’t going to drive it back to Stamford, so I had arranged for the car carrier to meet me at the dealer. I flew to San Diego, bought the car, watched it get loaded on the car carrier and flew back to NYC all in the same day. Two weeks later, the car was delivered to me in Stamford.

Q: How often do you drive it? How long have you owned it?

A: I’ve owned it for eight and a half years. I don’t drive it very much. But I like taking it to car shows. I drive it around 500 miles a year. I like to say that I spend less money in a year for fuel for my Lamborghini than most Prius owners spend. But I do put about 5000 miles on my bicycle each year.

Q: What is it like owning a Lamborghini in The Villages?

A: Now that I’m in the Villages, “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown”, there’s plenty of opportunity to talk about the car with interested neighbors. All I have to do is park the car in the driveway, and people will stop, sometimes to admire, sometimes to take a picture. The car is very photogenic.

Q: Are there other Lamborghini or exotic car owners in The Villages?

A: In the nearly two years that I’ve been in the Villages, I’ve only seen one other Lamborghini. It was an Aventador parked in the Winn-Dixie parking lot on Bichara Boulevard. There’s a red Ferrari that I’ve seen a couple of times. I suspect there are more exotics in The Villages, but like me, the owners are happy to keep them locked up in their garages. I’m surprised that The Villages does not have club for exotics and sports cars in general.

Q: What question about your Lamborghini do you hear the most?

A: I get lots of questions. What year is it? (2006). People are surprised by that answer because the car looks new. How fast does it go? (200mph). How fast have you gone in it? (not saying). Horsepower? (520). Can I trade you? (nope). Can I take a picture? (Sure, $5. Only kidding.)

Q:
Why did you choose Talk of The Villages to list your Lamborghini?

A: Talk of The Villages reaches a broad range of potential buyers, many with the ability to give this beautiful car a good home. I even had a buyer from Ocala call me after he saw the ad in Talk of The Villages.

Saw one of those at a car wash in Palm Harbor, FL 18 years or so ago. The detailers were extremely careful with ever touch they made to the car as the proud owner followed them around watching every thing they did.

That one was yellow too if my memory serves.
