Goodwill no longer accepts computers. Where can I donate mine? Will the charter school use it?
And I’ve seen messages Re: donating luggage to women’s shelters. Is there one nearby?

Generally computers that are donated/given away these days are so old that most places won't take them as the work to "clean them up" isn't worth the time. The only way to find out would be to call them. Maybe they have a "computer repair" class who could tear it down as a learning experience. I would have to assume it is pretty old and/or not functioning. Make sure you remove your old data. I would take a drill right through the hard drive if it is one of those antique mechanical drives or just take it out and keep it. Even if erased your data can be recovered relatively easy unless you use a DOD secure erase application.

Default Recycle

From time to time, someone has an electronics collection for recycling. It keeps these out of the landfill. The donated electronics are taken apart and metals that can be reused, and precious metals, are harvested.

It might be the Villages Homeowners Assn? Watch the newspaper for an announcement.

You can take it to Best Buy for free recycling. It probably doesn't have any market value for a charity to want it.

Remove the hard drive (and save it) and take the computer to Best Buy. They will take computers and other electronics for "no charge." Monitors and TV's are not free to recycle and I think they will give you store credit for the recycle charge.

I'm not aware of any "good" hard drive recycle places. I'm sure they exist - I just don't know of any.
