Glad you're all right, rdhdleo! Did you see or hear the lightning hit?
We had a blown circuit breaker but it reset correctly. Quote:
Shortly after we first moved here, we lost a TV and satellite receiver to lightning that came in through the coax cable. There are surge protectors for coax, but we didn't have one. |
Sabal Chase here and we heard it hit in bathroom and new out lights in there. DH had his hand on the computer and he got a fast shock. clock radio was off and then turned on and now we can't it turn off as well as cpap machine won't turn on. TVs are turning on but contact with cable not working. the antenna is bent on the outside.
Just glad TVs and computers are safe! |

So many times I feel its a direct hit but based what I'm hearing in this thread, probably not, but it sure seems that way. Last nights storm was totally frightening. I drove to Eustis during all that, winds so strong it was hard to keep my car straight. So glad everyone is safe! (Summer has just begun.. YIKES.) |
It seems each area of the country has its good and bad weather. I'm still not sure about lightning rods---surge protection, yes. It's been a relative mild late spring early summer here in Central Illinois regarding storms.
The corn and soybean crops around here are looking good. Have a nice summer everyone! |

Just my opinion. Z |
Update..... I am still glad we had lightening rods but am slightly disappointed in the whole house surge protection. However that said I think major appliances are ok though the NEW dishwasher during one cycle today was way louder than normal :( As it happened our queen palm right next to our house in front f guest room took a hit to the heart of it :( apparently that surged through the ground and hit cables or electric. Tree will be removed Tues. and shrub put in. Our landscaper said it is never a good idea to put palms close to the house as they get so tall they're an easy target for the lightening and with deep roots on older ones it makes for a good path for the current. Newest count, garage door opener is out, small guest TV gone, power to one recliner in our sectional out the others ok (go figure), air pump for bed out, blue ray dvd player out, Bose system working but sound is bad, going to test cycles on more stuff tomorrow and contacting Ins. Monday I am glad house is ok and we are safe that's a blessing could have been a lot worse but still very bummed as it's a very unplanned huge expense. Calling Surge protection company Monday along with Seco and see if they come check everything out just to be safe. 12 years here and I don't think I'll ever get used to these lightening storms :(

Is it me, or does there seem to be more lightening and longer thunder rumbling lately ? The ground actually shakes , and the crack sound of lightening hitting somewhere has been nearly daily in the past few weeks... Opinions?
Oh, I was told by friend that the Sunoco gas station on 466 suffered from the lightening yesterday ,pumps are not working earlier today. |
We've been here only a little less than 4 years and last night was the scariest. We were coming home from Brownwood in golf cart when it started about 6:30 and we could see huge lightening bolts in all directions. I wanted to take cover at Evans Prairie but thought better to get home to my dog. Storm kept going for so long compared to how they usually speed through the area. Hope this is not a common occurrence.

Dogs have been VERY affected by the recent storms ! Since we dog sit, we have had a variety of dog breeds , all have been a wreck during storms. Their need to stay close and cuddle means most are attached for the duration ! Most of the owners gave heard of the calming vest, but have yet to have a dog wear one. I have also heard of BASCH remedy called " Rescue Remedy" for humans but ok for pet too. Also we try to keep music playing so the thunder is not so noticeable .
Anyone with dogs that has found a calming method during the storms? Advice? |
