While OP has issued denials, I'm not stupid enough to believe this isn't a troll.

I so agree with you. One of the delightful things about getting older....we are so good at spotting insincerity.

Leftbeforelunch 01-25-2025 06:50 PM

Nope, not a troll. I am real and here.

If I was a troll, I’d be instigating and trying to get a rise.

What would be the point of trolling a retirement community forum? Not only do I not troll, the return from it would be insignificant if I did.

I’m using this is as pseudo anonymous asking board, I’m not going to go around asking people where to find dates.

The suggestion of the bar after 9 has been the most solid. So props to whoever mentioned that.

One last thing.

If I wanted to troll, this post would have been hilarious.

I would have instigated, poked at stereotypes, I would have misinterpreted everyone’s responses and purposely sent back non sensical arguments to everyone while also being disrespectful.

That’s how you actually troll.

Why would a youngster want to live here?

Leftbeforelunch 01-25-2025 07:11 PM

It’s extremely safe, most if not all people are approachable.

The amenities, the beauty, the work opportunities, change of life and scenery.

I have zero complaints living here and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the world.

Not to mention the fact that I’m very extroverted and really enjoy being around people.

The only complaint I have is that the regular Walmart is 30 minutes away. But that doesn’t even count as a complaint.

Most if not all of my interactions with the people I’ve met have been wholesome.

With the exception of work opportunities, those are all reasons DW and I like living here. Hey, whatever floats your boat. Or, as a buddy with a Marilyn Monroe fetish used to say, "whatever blows your dress up".
Have fun while you can. Life isn't as long as I used to think it was.

Does it matter?

People who have already grown up, had jobs, and contributed to society in some way other than living with their parents in a retirement community at age 27.

Second - consider that children under 19 aren't allowed to live here. So if you DO meet "the one" and decide to start your family, you'll need to do it somewhere else. Might want to start working on preparing for that.

You asked - that's my suggestion to you.

IF the original poster is not living with parents and purchased a property, the 55+ rule is already gone. Now if they start a family, how long before the over 19 rules goes out the wi dow?
How does this 80/20 55+ rule get enforced?

RRGuyNJ 01-25-2025 08:07 PM

Who enforces the 20% rule? When 20% is met, do the realtors say "Sorry, no room at The Inn."

OP was asked to come live "down here", I believe. Doesn't specify with family or not. (Rental or purchase are both options).
As to the enforcement of 80/20 rule. Check with the sales office. They should, at least, point you in the correct direction.

Agree. A 27 year old living here is not healthy. Not seeing any children, not interacting with people your own age, not out in the real world cuz this ain't the real world. Being with mainly old people all day I would find depressing at 27 years old. Not my business, but since you posted about it I'll give it.

You also don't want that 25-35 year old living in the Villages who meets their true love and starts a family in The Villages, where children under 19 ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE.

Many of these young adults will want to have kids. Those kids are not, and should not, be welcome to live in this community. There aren't accommodations for them here, there aren't a lot of sidewalks, there is ONE playground just outside Sumter Square, people aren't allowed to put swingsets in their yards, and none of the amenities are available to under 19 EXCEPT for the family pools.

This is by design. It was built this way because this is NOT a family community. It's a senior community.

I thought those values went out in the 50s. So you think everyone can have children, or wants to have children? Many DINKS live very happily without children, which may or may not be their choice. Our Oldest and youngest are DINKS, Very happy with their life choices. The middle child has 3 children, which is now weighing heavily, since she has an inoperable brain tumor, with little time left.
So not everyone need’s children to complete their life, and sometimes their life can’t complete their children.

Any private messages from potential paramours?

Leftbeforelunch 01-25-2025 08:41 PM

I don’t think so, I would ignore them anyway haha.

It don’t. Sale is sale is sale.

Everyone keeps misinterpreting the lack of details I provided to some kind of doomsday.

Almost all of the assumptions from the users have been wrong 😂
