I think the point is we don't want anyone knocking on our door that isn't either a)delivering a package or b)invited.

And point well taken. You are right. And kind and funny and good and always fair and considerate in your views. Please come knock on MY door...or ring the bell. It's a doozy, it plays a song. ;) Hugs waiting. |

I must say I have only had 1 problem with a JW. After politely telling him that I wasn't interested I proceeded to close my door (not slam it - just close it). At that point, he put his foot in the door to block it. I then (ummm shall we say rather unpolitely) told him that it would be in his best interest to remove his foot ! HE GOT THE MESSAGE ! |

I have a sister in Long Island that has been a J.W. for some 35 years. When she became a J.W. she discontinued all communication with our family for 25 years because she said the the J.W.'s were her family. My mother made many attempts to contact her through her friends to no avail. She finally contacted my Mother after my Father died and has been in sporadic contact ever since, mostly when she needed money. She also doesn't celebrate birthdays. Once when she was at my house it happened to be my Mom's birthday, she asked me if I thought it would be weird if she has a piece of cake. I said why would I think it's weird? It's just cake. She said "we" don't celebrate birthdays. I lost a good sister to the J.W.'s and my Mother, who is a devout Catholic, lost a good daughter.

I hope you're noticing that religious 'talk' is very close to politics in terms of getting off track and becoming viral on web sites like this. Time to close thread before it gets out of hand? Just my 2 c. |
I am not a supported of JW but they are practicing their religion as they believe they should. Evangelical Christians do the same thing but send missionaries to other countries or even urban areas(street ministries) to spread the Word of Christ. They do it because they believe that the only way you will be saved is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You don't see them going door to door in The Villages because most Christians are too intimidated by non-believers and fear the ridicule that might happen to openly talk about their faith and the local churches don't push it. The local churches have different ways to spread the Word - ask you to bring a neighbor or friend to some church event - Christmas pagent, Thanksgiving meal, sunrise service, youth choir, the Village Voices.
The commission is to only spread the word, plant a seed, not convince anyone. That is God's job. If you aren't ready to accept it, no amount of discussion will change your heart. |

Cannot remember ever getting any JW in the Villages. They seemed to come around every year in Palm Harbor. I would just not answer the door whenever I saw someone I thought could be a religious missionary of some sort. |
