Insurance fraud is a felony offense (not civil offense) in Florida. Has anyone else sent a link to this thread to law enforcement?

First of all, there is no way to repair the type of windshield damage you are describing. And, the damage you are describing is covered by your comprehensive insurance after applying the deductible, assuming that you have the entire windshield replaced. Some insurance companies will waive the deductible if the windshield can be repaired, but not replaced. This type of repair involves injecting an epoxy to repair a chip or crack. I think your detail guy is incorrect that all insurance companies will waive the deductible when you have a windshield replaced, regardless of how the windshield was damaged. In fact, I doubt that any insurance company will waive the deductible for a replacement windshield.

Insurance covers damage from road debris, hail, vandalism etc, but not wear and tear. Wiping windows with damaged or dirty wiper blades is neglect and falls under wear and tear. Thus no coverage.

ok thanks guys. yes wife goes to work early and probably uses the wipers the whole 25 minute drive. With no rain just dew. Am sure that is what happened. will not be committing fraud. Hopefully will find an inexpensive windshield. Was on the phone at different times over 3 days for 90 minutes

Well after 3 days and 90 minutes on hold Mrs. State Farm calls me and say they will not because it is wear and tear. So I have a call in to her to see if they will even pay after I pay the deductible. (900 Jaguar windscreen). We will se what this ...... says when she gets back to me.
Meanwhile if the answer is no, does anybody no how to get ground in wiper streaks off of windshields. Thanks, Bud

Florida law is notable for its provision regarding windshield repair and replacement. Florida Statute 627.7288 states that if you have comprehensive or combined additional insurance coverage, the deductible provisions of your policy do not apply to damage to the windshield.

There is no "wear and tear" exception. It's bogus.

Answer to your question: the scratches and streaks from the wiper blade can be buffed out — carefully — with a powered buffer and the appropriate solution. It’s a messy job and one needs to be careful as taking too much glass off the windshield can distort the view through the windshield. I recently did this job to a car I was restoring. Came out near perfect removing rather deep scratches. Bonus was it also removed all the minor pits in that part of the windshield. Google the job for additional tips if you are up for it. Good luck!

Not that this completely relevant to the conversation but the reason it is recommended to replace a windshield with a crack or chip (which can turn into a crack) is not cosmetic, it's safety. A cracked windshield has less structural integrity.
