Default KIN Insurance

Has anyone had experience with KIN Insurance for homeowners? They've only been around since 2016 so they don't have an A. M. Best rating yet. They're rated A by Demotech but not A' or A''. I have no idea how meaningful Demotech ratings are.

Interested in any comments on their financial strength, claims paying ability, and customer service. Thanks.

We are also considering Kin Ins---they seem to be the lowest price.

I have KIN. Haven't had to make a claim, yet. But then in 50+ years of having home insurance, I have never made a claim. Switched to them this year when my other insurance almost doubled. KIN's first quote was several hundred cheaper, then when I sent them a copy of the full wind mitigation report, they quoted less than what I had been paying.

With homeowners insurance such a common concern, I'm surprised only 1 person has replied that they have kin. Is there any other experience with kin out there?

You got me curious, so I ran a quote using IDENTICAL coverages I currently have on our 2/2 Colony from Traveler's through Villages Insurance and KIN came out about $60 cheaper ($920 vs $980) than Traveler's. Not enough to switch but they certainly are competitive. Have had very minimal increases from Traveler's over the last 3 renewals, most recent being in July so I wouldn't take the chance of switching unless Traveler's gives me the shaft next July, and not sure if these folks are giving a "first year lowball" or are consistently competitive. Interesting though.

ALL price comparisons are meaningless unless you compare identical line items and coverages.

Here’s a two year old article I found on Kin Insurance. 6 Things to Know About Kin Insurance – WFTV

Because it’s so new, and I don’t like dealing with companies with only an online presence, I don’t think I would use them.
