We purchased our home here last year and the 10’ x 13’ lanai came with slightly tinted acrylic sliders with screens. Last summer the space became too hot to inhabit on several afternoons. This summer we plan to add roll down solar shades (Coolaroo brand) to decrease solar gain as they did for the lanai attached to our previous home and increase privacy from our neighbors. We have no noise issues to deal with, so we’re pretty happy with the acrylics, which I assume were much cheaper than anything made of glass. If the shades (which are available at some big box stores like Lowe’s & HD) do not reduce the solar gain enough our next step may be to add lattice to the top of our adjacent pergola that covers our patio. Shades and lattice need little maintenance and won’t increase our electric bill.
Good luck in finding the best solution for your own situation.

I'm surprised that people would settle for single pane glass windows. You would never install those in the rest of the house. By that logic, you would install single glass in the guest bedroom windows that you may use less often than the lanai.

We had Tom DeMetri of DeMetri creations do our cbs courtyard villa. Including kneewall to match stucco and beautiful heavy door, hard wired outside light, an additional inside outlet, ceiling insulation and Notandex double pane insulated sliders with low E glass. Worth giving him a call just to see what he can do for you. Call him at 352 397 0200. By the way did I mention that Tom builds it like a category 3 lanai?? It is a category 2 so does not increase your taxes but the quality is cat 3
