Where is the closest landing strip for a small plane near TV?

Unless you buy a home in a fly-in community I think you are out of luck. I sold my Glasair, but I flew out of Leesburg while I had it. I did a lot of looking, but never found any other place to park it.... My wife would have been VERY unhappy living in a fly-in community.

I quickly counted 4 strips in Belleview, 4 in Leesburg, 2 in Fruitland Park, 1 in Wiersdale, and 9 in Ocala... and I think there is another up on Rt. 42 just West of TV. Some are private, some are not. Your charts should have their locations.

Thank goodness there are no active air strips near TV.

I lived a mile from a community airport where I previously lived. Many pilots and airport promoting officials were the most cocky, arrogant, egotistical, bunch of jackasses. Many pilots had no consideration for the residents down below miles from the airport with their sky jockey mentality and low flying antics. They often piloted planes that sounded 10 times worse than Harleys without mufflers - often doing inconsiderate low level flyby's over neighbors in formations with 3 or 4 other planes, thinking that the world loved their selfish hobby.

Note I said "many", not all. I'm sure there are many responsible and considerate pilots. But I know for a fact that some are totally inconsiderate jerks. But it is sure a relief living a good distance from any active airport because, sure as the sun rises, there will be a few pilots who really don't care.

Just so you know. Nobody gets angrier at those "few" irresponsible pilots than the "many" responsible pilots. I firmly believe that the love of flying is absolutely born. I have honestly wondered if there is a gene that is coded for it. And if someone who wants so much to fly gets to fly, it is truly a dream come true. And those who love flying do not want to see it ruined for them by a few. A very few. You know how that goes. There are always a few who threaten and often destroy so many things.

So Mucci, please cut pilots a little slack. OK. That sure is a wide brush you are painting with. "Egotistical"? "Jackasses"? Oh my, Mucci. A few? Sure. Like everything else. But not any of the pilots I know.

Well, it is getting close to midnight and I have made a rule for myself to never again type after midnight. That is when I get into trouble.

That airport was there (Destin) long before you bought your house. So was the Air Force Base. In fact both were there long before your subdivision was created. When you buy next to an airport, guess what... there will be noise.

The earliest adjacent subdivisions were approved by the County prior to the existence of the airport.

The point is the airport has grown to an incompatible proportion SINCE that time, with the number of flights (low flying inconsiderate jackasses included) becoming many multiples of what it was 20years ago.

The airport has grown to excessive size in the wrong spot. It has been growing SINCE the population around it was established.

The arrogant few who believe the pilots have every right to fly however they choose in that existing sensitive environment "because they were there first" is what earns the labels "arrogant" and "inconsiderate." There would be less concern for the airport having grown in size if "some of the few" who are selfishly obsessed with their hobby were more considerate. There is an airport 20 miles away where they can perform their flying gymnastics over a much smaller population.

Yes I do, and I also know that reputation depends on who you ask. I am pretty sure those who condemn the airport are in large majority, people who live in newer neighboring subdivisions (like yours).

Let's see, population booms, but transportation is supposed to stand still? That makes no sense at all. And I don't know how you define "incompatible", but it probably is different from mine and good many others...As "in the eye of the beholder".

How can an airport grow in a different spot? Yes it has been growing, as the population has boomed in the entire Panhandle area. (And a lot of that growth has been moving closer and closer to the airport, eliminating previously empty ground.) That is only to be expected.

The pilots you refer to are, I am sure, the T-28 pilots, and their flights are well within the established rules of flight operations. That is neither arrogant, nor inconsiderate. They have rules of the road, just like we do on the highways and I don't think they would fly outside the legal parameters more than once. If they did, they would run afoul of the federal aviation cops (FAA) real quick.

For those who love to defend aircraft noise, I know a few air force bases you might want to live next to.

Aircraft make noise. There is no way around that. Those who choose to live in the immediate area of an airport (or AFB) cannot expect otherwise. Buyers/Renters need to pay attention to their surroundings. After all, airports are not really inconspicuous. Due diligence isn't that difficult.

As to the original question, I looked at the Jacksonville sectional. I had an old one since our son attended Riddle. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot near The Villages other than what appear to be private airfields. Looks like Leesburg is the closest airport. Not living in TV yet I'm not sure how long it takes to drive to Leesburg's airport.
