Lawn ornaments?
I thought you couldn't have lawn ornaments in a yard south of 466? Take a look at this home for sale: http://www.thevillages.com/homes/vls...asp?vls=207558
Isn't that some sort of ornament off the lanai? I guess they are calling it a water fountain? Is this allowed or maybe no one has 'dropped a dime' on them yet? Just curious. Last edited by Russ_Boston; 03-10-2010 at 04:11 PM. |

It should be fine because it is a water fall it looks like. Anything that holds water or plants makes it okay, I am pretty sure. And yes it is in the back yard and Village Watch does not walk around the backs to see what type of landscaping has been done in the the back.

fountains with moving water are allowed, at least here in Hemingway , I know.
non moving water (ie : bird fountain) is not. but.. I see lots of stuff in yards that technically shouldn't be (I don't really care, personally, but I abide by rules just cuz). rules/laws and enforcement are two different things, just like any government |

I know of one designer that had a courtyard villa wall behind it. They had (yes, had) the most beautiful Japanese garden in the back -- a small waterfall, rocks, trees, statutary. All truly tasteful and beautiful. The neighborhood and friends loved to congregate back there to sit and talk. New neighbors complained and they had to remove it.
So, basically, it seems the rule is as long as Neighborhood Watch doesn't see it and no one complains, you can get away with it. If someone complains, it becomes history.

I know where this house is.
The fountain and the surrounding ornamentation were installed by a reputable landscaper. The lanai is located on the side of the house and only the tree on the side of the fountain is visible from the street.

When we first came to TV to by, we rented out in Springdale. We went to the pool and when we came back, the TV Watch was outside our neighbor's house. We asked about it (it was a Patio Villa) and he said they had a Blessed Mother's statue. It was on the side. He said if the statue had water coming out of her mouth, it would be okay. We all agreed to the restrictions when we signed the papers and, frankly, I agree with them.

I think you can do whatever you want in back of your home as long as your neighbours don't rat you out.
Having said that, I agree with the covenants against lawn ornaments. It may look a little "stepfordish", but it contributes to a pleasant, well groomed appearance.

I thought the yard ornament ban was only for the front yard or visible from the front. Mabe I am wrong.

Lincoln,
Hemingway again here, Rocks are OK, flower pots are ok, moving water fountains are ok. statuary is not, nor whirilgigs, etc. I do see a lot of violations though. |

If its in the rear of the house ornaments can be displayed. In the front if they are not under roof or eves they cannot be displayed unless they have live plants growing in them or they have running water. That even if the house backs to the street. It is still in the rear.

Fines for deed violations
In Springdale they made some people remove yard ornaments that were in the side yard which was facing the street.
I think that once the CDDS north of 466 start to enforce the fines and word gets around, there will be less disobedience of the rules. http://www.districtgov.org/departmen...standards.aspx

Thanks for the info.
I have done a design for a kinetic sculpture Guess I will have to incorporate running water if I want to do one at my place when I move.
