Let’s see what’s allowed….. “The Villages has not set a use for the property, but would consider development like commercial, industrial or even residential, depending on what is allowed”.

Since the turnpike is a north south road I assume that they mean east of the turnpike. Is this down off of 470?

Hardly. The average The Villages owns south of CR 470 in Sumter and Lake would mean somewhere between 200,000 and 225,000, based up their building densities in the past.

Pretty sure it's a little less that 1/2 that number...

Not sure why so many are fixated on the size of the villages, we've been here 18 years, I venture roughly 8 miles from my house for 3 town squares and 15 executive golf courses, it could go to 250,000 houses and it wouldn't effect anything I do.

And why would they? Like it or not this area is growing. The developer has been here for 30 or so years. Has a vested interest in the success of The Villages and surrounding communities. If “The Developer” didn’t continue to build someone else would step in to fill the gap.
There aren’t too many outfits around that could handle the scope of what developing here entails. So you’d end up with a mishmash of disjointed communities by different developers resulting even more urban sprawl than we’re seeing now. At least with this developer we pretty much know what we’re going to get. We know the type of amenities that come with a new neighborhood.
The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.
