Reminds me of the stories about men being drugged in Las Vegas and waking up in the bathtub, covered in blood, missing a kidney. Who starts these rumors? And why? Please do not pass them on unless they are substantiated.

Meta from The Daily Sun called me back just now and she said apparently there was a grain of truth to this story but the stab wounds or cut places were self inflicted.

She said The Sun does not like to report things like suicides or anything that could be related to a person's mental illness.

It's a good last resort option being mindful of the consequences,
I assume in Fl you need a permit for a hand gun but not a handy 12Ga. shotgun.

Is there a nearby range to practice?

Figmo: Are you planning another class like the one you presented a few months ago, on personal safety and firearms? I could not attend that one and would like to.

This particular incident happens to be true.

The man who was up and leaving for the airport spotted the hoodied guy across the street at a neighbors house, trying to get in the front door. He called out to him and hoody ran away.

This happened the other night in the Village of Amelia.

IF it is true, I am sure the man leaving for the airport at 4 a.m. called the Sheriff's office right away and gave a statement to the deputy with a time, description of the "hoodied guy", which direction he ran, etc.

Not sure that that is true. If you buy a hand gun from a dealer there is a form that you have to fill out. If you buy from a private person there is no form.

That's good to hear, graciegirl, about the Villages Daily Sun not printing stuff about mental illness. There are very strong prejudices against people with some kind of mental illness. And, it is probably not a good idea to report on suicides in case this might trigger people with very real mental illnesses to copy this act.

Unless there is some kind of history of abuse in the family or some other kind of factors involved, it is best that mental illnesses remain an issue of the family involved and their mental health professionals.

See Geraldo Rivera was right about the concerns from people who wear hoodies. If I saw a strange guy wearing a hoodie in on my streets, I'd follow him to see what he was up to and be ready to stand my ground. Oh that's been done already. Kidding aside, I too was left with thei mpression that The Villages was a gated community. I have safety concerns because there are so many dynamics going on all at once. building/construction, vendors/contractors with employed help they probably never do background checks on, renters, people gone from their homes months at a time and many transient people create some real opportunities for the dishonest. Now throw in elderly and the false impression that people living here are all rich and you have motive. Law enforcement would do better by us to patrol neighbors rather than sit on buena vista picking up speeders.

I wonder how many people have security systems installed.
