Has anyone used the Homestead Portability?

We have a contract and had buyer's inspection today.

We moved from Sarasota where we had been for 19 years last Feruary 2010 and inherited the existing owners taxes here in Marion County. We went to the county and completed two forms - one for the homestead exemption and the other for the homestead transfer. We were told the homestead transfer would not start until the following year and really couldn't find out how much it will save us - it is based upon the value of your previous home compared to your new home. I guess we'll know the real answer when we get our next tax assessment in the fall of this year. You can find homestead transfer calculators on the internet but they didn't seem to help me that much. Unfortunately, it didn't help us a bit. I think it is because the value of our prior homestead was less than the value of our new homestead.
