Bay Kid, they asked because there is a max limit that companies will pay due to theft of guns. You would need to schedule them to make sure you had sufficient coverage in the event of a loss.

I know the Lady Lake Police practice on Marion County Road in Lady Lake, just off cr 25, to verify call police dispatch 352 751-1565

Thanks. I might bring my small handgun safe and bolt it to the floor.

Just wondering...what would you do if someone broke into your house? I'm guessing that, before you could unlock the safe and put bullets into the gun, something dire would happen.

I don't own a gun and have always wondered what good a gun would do if it was unavailable and unloaded.

Thanks.

Very good point. However, many people own more than one handgun, and they may choose to have some locked up, when not needed for home defense.

There is no confusion actually. If the gun is in the safe and unloaded it is not for home protection....just safe storeage.

The only gun deemed ready for home/self protection is one that is loaded and nearby.......anything else is rationalization of what ever for what ever. Unloaded guns offer no protection.

Before keeping a gun loaded either in the home or permitted and on one's person, please be sure to take the appropriate lessons in gun handling and defense. It is much, much more than just buying the gun.....which in the entire equation is the easy part.

Check out the villages club: The Cool Gun Club. On their website they have range recommendations. Some were not recommended because they were not considered safe.

Last year I went to both the Eustis Gun Club Range and the Ocala National Forest Range.

That was about a year ago, so from memory the Eustis Range has about 1500 members and are getting close to full. They charge $165 a year and have very nice covered ranges for 50 and 100 yards and smaller shotgun and pistol ranges. Also an obstacle course but you have to be qualified before you can use that. I went as a guest of a member and paid $5, once you've gone 4 times you must join if you want to continue going. It was a good ways from TV, took about 40 minutes. You have to go to a club meeting on Sunday morning and be voted in, or something like that.

The Ocala Nat'l Forest Range is free to the public, it's closed one day a week, see the website. It is much smaller than Eustis, there is about 12 covered shooting spots for 100 yards or less and then a second smaller range for shotguns. It's off Rt 40 about ten miles east of Ocala, but we found going up Rt 25 and then some other roads we were able to cut the trip much shorter. The main negative is there is no one in charge. I have read stories about not everyone putting their rifles down when others go down range. Also, you need to have someone watch your rifle when you go down range or it may be stolen. The day we went we had no problems. Just as we got there two spots opened up, so we didn't have to wait. It stayed packed the two hours we were shooting and everyone was pretty nice and knew the rules. You'll need to bring your own 2x4 or something to hold your targets.

I haven't been to the indoor range on Rt44 for a couple of reasons. I heard it wasn't air conditioned, just large fans. It was only 25 yards and you couldn't shoot rifles except on Saturday. Also the owner was sometimes not the friendliest person in town. That is just hearsay from the guys I know. Overall, Eustis is probably the best place of the two that I've visited.

There is also the Dade City Range. That's south on I-75 toward Tampa about 50 miles. I have not visited this place, but from their website they look much like Eustis and is a little cheaper. $100 per year but the first year has an additional $100 initiation. They do allow shooting without membership but it's $40 a day.

I've gone to the one on Rt 44, The Gun Shop, the outdoor one in Lake Weir. I think that's the Ocala one previously mentioned and R & D Tactical just off 441 in the north end of Ocala. The Gun Shop was hot, target returns were broken. R & D was neat, cool. The Outdoor range off of route 25 in Lake Weir, very safety conscious, neat. Cost to join was $200 and $165 /year for as much shooting as you want. That one is only abut 30' from my house near 466. I suggest you try them all, see which one fits you.

In the 65years I have been shooting, I have never been to or heard of a gun range anywhere that was not safety first/conscious!!!!

Coming down this fall to buy a home, etc., but looking for a trap shooting location (club or range), as well as somewhere to shoot my black powder Civil War guns. Any recommendations? Thanks, Bob.

That's good. I've been shooting all of one year, safety impressed me.
