The pipes on my Harley are very loud, and I try to coast most of the way out of my village. Although, it seems they are still not load enough to keep negligent drivers from turning into me and cutting me off on the road. I even have the pipes baloney cut facing out to the right so that if I am in a person's blind spot, the noise will bounce off their quarter panel, hopefully waking them up. I love the rumble of my Harley, but do not enjoy the loud noise. I do it as survival, not to be a nuisance. I hardly ride now because of the many times that negligent Villagers have mindlessly come close to ending my enjoyment once and for all. I did own four motorcycles until I moved down here. I sold all but one, that my wife refuses to give me permission to part with. She knows how much it has meant to me over the years.

I am tempted to remove the roof of my golf cart so that I can get some semblance of the biker feeling I used to enjoy. The open air experience of riding an open vehicle is too hard to explain. Wonder if I can get a little Harley sound effects horn for my golf cart.

There are those who claim the loud pipes for safety is a myth. They will not help you in the most frequent two vehicle encounter, which is the left turn in front of an oncoming bike. For that situation, you are much better off having the headlight modulator, which is legal in Florida. A biker should never ride in a driver's blind spot except when passing. Slow down or speed up. But don't spend even a few seconds in a driver's blind spot. Sooner or later, the enforcement is going to increase regarding loud pipes. It is happening in other states and municipal areas around the country. An interesting aside; the practices of filtering and lane splitting have been argued to have certain safety aspects, and are legal in some states, California being one. But many cagers get totally po'd thinking the biker is cutting in line, and will take serious illegal actions to try to prevent this from occurring.

Now that is quick. Was that a street legal car? If so, holy cow. I bet you miss it.

I have never timed my neighbors crew, but theirs has to be the loudest mower around, and they always show up about 7:30 a.m. We like to sleep late, but on Monday it is impossible. Our crew does 4 houses in a row, with two mowers, and multiples trimmers and blowers at the same time, but they are never close to being as loud as the one neighbor. They have just sold the house, so hopefully the new people will get a different lawn service.

When we vacationed down here for a couple of months, we rented a house on a golf course. Almost every morning, about 7:30, we had mowers or some type of utility vehicles going by our lanai. It really narrowed our search for golf course frontage. We ended up not getting a place on the golf course in the end, the major reason being the mowers.

From a female perspective, this thread is a hoot. Most boys just want to make noise and have fun. Bless their hearts.
They are born that way, and obviously it doesn't go away with age.

Throaty is good. Understated is always a good place to be. A little wail, Porsche or Ferrari style, is good also. Loud for the sake of loud, is well, just loud.
