I hope that people are planning to support the efforts to raise funds for building a new performing arts facility to serve our community and the surrounding areas. The first such "fund raiser" will be a Benefit Performance at Savannah Center on August 29, 2007...from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Tickets are on sale at all Villages Box Offices for $15.00.

We love the Savannah Center...it is a beautiful facility. As are the many wonderful Recreation Centers around The Villages. But, just as our "retirement years" are not the same as our parents, neither are our needs for culture and the Arts. It's time that we moved into the 21st Century, and had a facility that would allow us to enjoy stage entertainment, music, and the arts in comfortable surroundings, with real "theatre" seats, great lighting and sound, and clear views to the stage area.

The Villagers Performing Arts Alliance needs your support to make this happen. Hope we will see you on August 29th! And, pass the word to your neighbors, and friends!

What great news about the possible Performing Arts Center. I was a Master Usher for years at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and this was one of the things I really hated to give up when moving to The Villages. The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center is the largest theater of its type in the south eastern US. It has five theaters including Morisani Hall which seats 2900 people. It was great fun ushering as we got to see all the big name shows and entertainers because of the draw they get from throughout central Florida. A performing arts center in the Villages would get a big draw as well.
