My cars like running on BJ and Sams gas. My wallet agrees

Is premium gas (91-93 octane) required or recommended for your car? Big difference. If it is recommended, then you can run on regular (87 octane and realize less power) as the engine control computer will adjust the timing (from data from knock sensors) to account for the lower octane and all will be well. If it is required, then it is possible that preignition (engine knock) will occur and possibly damage the engine.

Top tier gas makes no difference. My car is supposed to take 93 octane and I've been putting in 87 for 160,000 miles. And not from any of the 'top tier' stations. Still runs great, passed inspection easily back when I had to get it done, and my mechanic said everything looks great.

TOP TIER™ Gasoline Brands

Top tier matters. Nothing to debate. I know the engineer that tested all the brands for a major oil company. Like Fram, you can pay me now or pay me later. No reason to cheap out for a few pennies per gallon.

I agree. But, the "top tier" designation would be more effective if it did not require a paid license to get it. Apparently, there are some gasolines that exceed the top tier quality, but, because they don't apply for and obtain the top tier license, they are not allowed to claim that they are top tier. Also, there are some small gasoline stations that buy their gas from various sources, so they may not always sell top tier brands. You shouldn't need to pay for the right to advertise that your gas is "top tier" because it doesn't always guarantee a higher quality product.

Sunoco an Shell for Premium fuel are best. Both our vehicles require Premium… yuck.

The one on 466A (by Starbucks) does. I think they all do. Not sure about ones that are switching brands but they likely eventually will.

Circle K does not want to pay the royalty to big oil in many of their stations. Lower price a few Pennie’s. They pull you in to buy coffee and soda with huge profit margins.

I just drove past the Marathon station in front of Pinellas on 466A. It is closed today. The pumps are roped off. There are several service vans parked there. Looks like it is transitioning.

Near my home in MD, there is an Exxon Station directly across from another Exxon Station...

Rockville Pike, just outside of DC...

One catches people going North, the other, people going South...
