One of the reasons UK has not yet 'shut down for business' is the experts do not expect the virus to peak until about June, and at the moment, containment is a better option than lockdown.
With that amount of time in lockdown, they believe people will be so p***ed off, they will start back to work, socialise etc, long before the peak and most infectious period is reached. One of the very good reasons for not shutting schools, was that many parents in work would use grandparents as baby sitters. That would put the least vulnerable, with the most vulnerable. Whether our medical experts and health stategists are right, we will have to wait and see. |

I also wonder if they will extend our yearly pass which expires June 1st. |
The Villages is the only justifiable place for people to be nervous. Pretty much everyone is old and have underlying issues so I don’t blame The Villages. It’s the rest of the world that’s acting ridiculous.

I'm taking my lane and enforcing the three foot rule.

When they close the bars I will know it is serious

The villages and this forum are filled with deniers, at least the president reversed course and declared a national state of emergency

Hmmmmmm Oh, but......according to the CDC so far this season Covid-19-------1,629 cases, 41 deaths Influenza A&B---36,000,000 cases, 22,000 deaths Gee, I think I should join the panicked hoarders, maybe I can follow a TP truck around to its destination, kind of like the oil embargo of 1973 |
Thank you - so much appreciate you sharing!!

“ Dr. Lawler’s calculations suggested 480,000 deaths, which he said was conservative. By contrast, about 20,000 to 50,000 people have died from flu-related illnesses this season, according to the C.D.C. Unlike with seasonal influenza, the entire population is thought to be susceptible to the new coronavirus.” I got that here a few minutes ago: Worst-Case Estimates for U.S. Coronavirus Deaths - The New York Times |

OK, "worst case scenarios": The near Earth asteroid that will pass by in 2038 makes a direct hit and destroys the planet Weaponized smallpox escapes from a level 4 containment lab and kills 3 billion worldwide N. Korea has a falling out with Iran and start a nuclear exchange that ignites WWIII Who is this Lawler clown anyway???? He thinks 480,000 deaths is conservative? The Spanish flu in 1918-1919, the worst epidemic in the modern era, killed between 500,000 and 675,000 Americans. And that was during a world war with troops in trenches, no ICU's , no ventilators, no antibiotics and no antivirals. Either he is the Village Idiot at the CDC, or perhaps he was talking worldwide deaths BTW, I can't find Lawler or his prediction on the CDC website. This is apparently what the NY Times said he predicted, and we all know what that means. |

The world population today is 7.8 billion - 7X the size it was in 1918 with mobility 1000 fold over 1918. |
Quote:
Other than 7x 1.8 billion is not 7.8 billion Actually, you made my point---this guy was predicting about as many deaths from Covid 19 as the Spanish flu---do we think that is reasonable?????? |
