Meeting on Social Security, Midicare and Medicare Advantage
NRLN Villages Chapter’s Aug. 23 Meeting Will Provide
Dialogue on Social Security, Medicare and Medicare Advantage Are you interested is saving Social Security and Medicare, not only for yourself but your children and grandchildren? Would you like to know what the likely future is for Medicare Advantage plans? If you are interested in these issues come and participate in a dialogue with Bill Kadereit, President, National Retiree Legislative Network (NRLN) at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 in the Lincoln Theater at The Villages Laurel Manor Recreation Center, 1985 Laurel Manor Drive. “Bill Kadereit has just finished researching and writing the NRLN’s “Grand Bargain” proposal to save Social Security and Medicare,” said Ray Pasternak, President, NRLN Villages Chapter. “During his research it was learned in a Congressional budget document that Congress plans to use Medicare Advantage plans as a way to move toward the privatization of Medicare.” Pasternak said leaders of the NRLN, its chapters and retiree associations will lobby the Grand Bargain proposal with members of Congress during the NRLN’s fall Fly-In to Washington, DC, Sept. 10-12 and raise questions about Medicare Advantage’s future. In the Social Security trustees 2018 report to Congress in June on the status of the program at the end of 2017, it was noted that the trust fund will be exhausted, except for payroll tax income, by 2034 and Social Security benefits must be cut by 17 to 21%. The Medicare trustees reported in June that the Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) trust will be depleted by 2026. Pasternak said that by attending the dialogue session residents of The Village will learn the details of the NRLN’s proposal to close the Social Security and Medicare 75-year funding gaps. Individuals who will attend the meeting are asked to send an email to contact@nrln.org or call the NRLN’s toll free phone number 1-866-360-7197 to identify the number who will attend.
