@CFrance: Just because I am afraid of snakes does not mean I don't know and try to learn many of the species. And....you have not heard the horror stories of babies and toddlers being strangled by pet pythons who escaped their cages in their own home? Look it up, snakes are escape artists and cages have to be built very carefully.

Actually, we did have the python we were pet sitting escape its cage in our home, which had two cats living there. The well-fed snake went straight to a heat source, which happened to be our furnace, ignoring the cats. This was a 6-foot long snake. I agree with Redwich that the horror stories are due to neglectful people ignorant of the care of the animals they took in. Certainly our son was ignorant of how easily they can escape their cages (in this case aquarium).

I am not a fan of snakes. If somehow they can be banned from the squares, I wouldn't be upset. If we hadn't had a walkout-level home with the kids' bedrooms and bath in the lower level, I never would have agreed to housing the snake in the first place. And I never agreed to it again!

I've been wanting this python (or a look-a-like cousin) for several years. Apparently the long promised Macy's and Coach store is never going to happen in our lifetimes, (hellooo, it's all over the internet) so I am heading to East Hampton for a python roundup.

I think everyone needs to do their part.

For a one time event, it is unfortunate the "Menace at Brownwood" will live on the Internet forever.

As long as they eat rats below the equator, and stay there, I'm okay with them. However, if they must come north, they should only come in the form of Patty's purse above. That, I must say, is beautiful.

That’s no place for any animal or reptile outside of a Seeing Eye dog. And I think the police could have done something. We all have a reasonable expectation of safety, if the snake lunged from the control of it handler, then the handler was unable to maintain control of the snake. I don’t know how many people are killed of hurt by them each year, but these are killing and eat reptiles. End result, the snake was a safety issue to the public. With this said, the matter should have been pursued further and is still not resolved.

end this thread please. by the way, i have been to brown wood many times and have never felt uncomfortable or 'threatened' by an imaginary outside element. actually i feel more uncomfortable at spanish springs because it can be very crowded and populated by so many children. one of the reasons that i love this 55+ community is because there are no children here. and i am not a scrooge.

What about the VCDD community watch people? I see them around all the time, and I do see them in the town squares, phone 352-753-0550.

OR
Villages safety, 352-205-8280

If both of these say 'nothing we can do', then I think all the residents need to show up at the next VCDD meeting.
