World traveling can be a challenge to use public restrooms. For example....... I was not warned of the facilities in The Vatican. To my surprise, the restroom consisted of a hold in the ground with foot imprints in cement for placement of the feet on each sides of the hole. Seriously????

assumptions that locks always are operable can be challenging/dangerous to 1's modesty,,, does anyone want to be the 1 obstructing access to 1 who's in emergency-access-to-facility mode ? at stadiums, etc, doesn't incoming always has the right of way ;-)
lady's rooms are single use ( stalls only ) while we men can make believe we're out in the woods

I experienced the same thing in Italy some 58 years ago. Went in a restroom as a very young lad who was in the US Navy and they looked like shower stalls no doors. They were staggered so one wasn't looking directly at another person, but one could see most of what was going on. After a couple of times it wasn't a big deal at all.
If one has been to a major sports arena for sports or a concert you will find young ladies in both lines as the women's line always takes longer, they will go in a stall, come out and go on their way. No one seems to care.
I have used a Women's room a couple of times when I absolutely had to, nature as we all know sometimes does not want to wait too long, when I have done this my wife has always stood outside the door and told prospective users they need to wait a minute. Yes, I felt a little twinge when I came out but no one ever said anything as I believe they just understood, it was an emergency.
I think because most of us that are older find it harder to accept if one has not encountered it before. As time goes on like it or not this may become the normal.

I was there yesterday afternoon also. I am just assuming the women’s was out of order. If not I think if I was thinking quick enough I would say “oh I’m sorry” then make a look at the women’s room and ask “do you know if the women’s room is occupied” maybe she made a mistake.
I have used the women’s room before. I remember once by mistake I was inThe stall and saw the extra waste basket. I had to wait until everyone else was gone before I left. Other times at the golf course when no women around, but was quick.

I thought to myself that I would NEVER, EVER attempt to enter a Ladies Room but it appears some attitudes and rules have changed? This is dangerous territory especially for women if this becomes normalized. Under some rare and really crowded circumstances, I could see the desire to share these facilities but I think women in particular should be careful in mainstreaming this. Be careful what you wish for. It could get dangerous.

I agree. I have seen other women do this but I would never use a men's room. The Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi has different sections for men and women but a communal hand washing area and even that is uncomfortable.

Most of the time people just need to pee. I am pretty sure there will be no issues.

Nothing bad has ever happened to me in a rest room for my entire life. I don't look for anything to start now.

When my girls were little and acting up when we were shopping I would take them to the restroom and give them a good talking to.

Daughters still tell me they have a bad feeling going into a public restroom.
