Mirrors and the Solar Eclipse.
Solar eclipse 2016: How to view it safely with mirrors, pinhole projectors and even a COLANDER - Mirror Online
And the pinhole projector thing looks like a good idea. The mirror also involved a pinhole like projection. Water reflection does not seem to be a good idea though. Always best to check a lot of sources for what is safe and what is not. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 08-16-2017 at 07:11 AM. |

I recall in my teens viewing a solar eclipse with a pin hole camera. This consisted of a box, the size of a Xerox carton, some aluminum foil, and a white sheet of paper. Take the box, cut a hole say 2 inches in diameters on one end, close to the side and bottom of the box. Place the aluminum foil over the hole, and carefully place a pin hole in it. Now on the inside of the box tape the sheet of white paper.
To use the pin hole camera, place the box inverted over your head, stand with your back to the sun, and aim until you see the sun. As I recall this setup worked really well.

I may try that if I can find a suitable box. Lowes on US 441/27 was out of solar eclipse glasses this afternoon as well as this morning. I had to go there anyway for a little home improvement. |

Actually, I am planning on watching the entire eclipse on SCI-FI channel, starting at noon, already have it setup to record, just incase I get tied up.

Thank you VT. My brother is going to a small town in Oregon which is in the full eclipse line. I am going up to Idaho for a week tomorrow so will experience it also. Once in a lifetime event although I recall experiencing a partial when I was a child in NM.

As I kid I did glimpse briefly a full solar eclipse. Just a quick peek for 2-3 seconds (not recommended and can be dangerous). However we mostly watched it reflected in a bucket of water which seemed to work. Not watching it directly with glasses is not much different than watching it on TV to me. So I will just watch it on the news or whoever is broadcasting it. I am sure there will be plenty of internet sites showing the eclipse. If you are not seeing an event directly, you are watching an image of it and to me it is the same experience as watching it on the internet or TV except they will have better images. I do not think it will be much here in TV. A partial at best.

I do remember watching an eclipse ~ Partial? Don't know ~ while wearing my father's welding helmet. It was very heavy on my 8-yo shoulders.
Just about 58 years ago. |

Interesting site to see what and when the eclipse will be like here.
Also you can put in different locations. Eclipses visible in Leesburg, Florida, USA - Aug 21, 2017 Solar Eclipse
