I see little difference between this and cigarette butts & other litter on the ground, yet I'm surprised at how many folks that seem to think defacing property that isn't theirs with silly stickers is just 100% ok. Others do it, so why can't I? Following that line of reasoning let's all just trash the grounds, too.

Can't wait to move there so I can help beautify TV by peeling a few stickers.:boom: :o

Perhaps when you move to TV you'll feel differently.
At our Mail Station, I haven't seen any of the stickers you describe
There are some stickers but they seem to be "well maintained".
Perhaps this appears to be a bigger issue than it really is.
In general, TV is a peace-loving community.

I hope you're right, but I know we saw a postal station that looked more than a tad littered with stickers when we were on our LV in Dec 2012. Have no recollection where it was since we were all over TV trying to take it all in. I just remember thinking at the time that yes, now I see what some have complained about on TOTV.

graciegirl 08-17-2014 11:27 AM

NO stickers at our mail station nor at our old one.

There is zero. zilch, none, nada at our mail box station nor were there any in Hadley before we moved to this village.

I can think of so many things I consider larger issues than this but someone will say I am minimizing. In our house if something goes a little wrong , we look at each other and say, It's not cancer and continue on.

I very much doubt it is political. I am willing to bet most people have never heard of the restaurant no matter who ate there.

I'm with you on the trash around the mailboxes and cigarette butts are trash.

Don't you think "stickergate" was started by snowbirds (like me) who had a difficult time remembering his/her box number after a 3 to 4 month hiatus . Darn Snowbirds!

nitehawk 08-17-2014 12:10 PM

I also put stickers on boxes that are not mine --- helps me find my box the one with no stickers --- hope the other people dont mind --- why should the owner of the box be the only one who can put stickers on a box -- if you dont own the box i should be able to put any sticker on any box - i am trying to make the mail station look like a nyc graffiti subway train--- just doing my part to make tv the friendliest place --- if your box is void of stickers - i can help

Reading your post reminded of the person who said to put the lightning rods on your neighbor's roof. Classic!

stickers on the mailboxes make the mail station messy, trashy.
these boxes belong to the postal system and are not personal. sorry to hear your personal sticker was removed.

casita37 08-17-2014 12:39 PM

I can't believe I read this entire thread!! However, I would like to add, someone suggested it isn't difficult to remember your mailbox number. Actually, for some, it is extremely difficult to remember lots of things. If a cute sticker can make my neighbors' lives (and my husband's) a little easier, then why not?

Exactly. Let's be charitable. Lots of seniors have memory issues.

And for those who think it's too messy, since it only takes seconds each day to pick up mail, surely it's a minor issue.

That's right. Dyslexia, near blindness, snowbird forgetfulness, a box that's very low (mine, but the one above it has a sticker on it--thanks, nitehawk!). There are a number of reasons someone might need to legitimately make their mailbox easier to spot.

Thank you Casita - and Bare - and CFrance for your voice of reason and sanity. I read through this whole thread and came to the conclusion - 'aint much doing in TOTV right now!:girlneener:

mischief at mailboxes

If someone does not like stickers on their mailbox then do not put one on. There are stickers all over the duval mailboxes and I could care less. It is a mailbox you get your mail and leave. Dotti nobody should have touched your sticker it was not obscene. Most things are great here so when something does happen it really sticks out. Like Gracie said put up another and Dotti dont let this get to you, not worth it.

bxmt54 08-17-2014 08:46 PM

Sticky subject...

For those of you that need help remembering your mailbox number, why not make a sticker and put in on your own personal mailbox key rather than the mailbox door. If it is something that makes you smile you will see it every day...and it won't bother anyone else. I, too, thinks it looks like graffiti and is tacky. Do you put stickers on your house to help you find it too?

dotti105 08-17-2014 09:36 PM

Just checked back on this thread! So many strong opinions!!

I think it is true that some people have too much time on their hands..... I am still mystified by the juvenile behavior. Now, by the strong opinions!

But I do love The Villages and think that 99% of the people I have had the pleasure to meet here are friendly, happy folks who enjoy living here. There is always a bad apple to be found. I just choose not to find it!

I wouldn't be able to remember what sticker I put on my box so I put stickers on the boxes except mine. Now I just go to the box with no sticker.

sunnyatlast 08-17-2014 09:53 PM

The stickers might look "tacky" to some, but nobody lives by the cluster mailboxes. We're there for 1 minute or less.

It's not a "There goes the neighborhood" situation that would devalue our properties.

I think Sunny's point was that a visit to the mailboxes takes a minute or two.
Not an eyesore on a street like a neighbor's car up on blocks.
If it helps Wrinklies quickly find their postal boxes, it seems of little impact to other residents.

OK. It is our business. But most are saving the worry for bigger problems.

DeanFL 08-17-2014 10:18 PM

OK, count me in as one of those horrible people that stickerized my box. With something very neutral and P.O. related. Heaven help me if I plugged on a Cubs or Patriots sticker...

Personally I think it's a cute idea and does not promote lawlessness or graffiti or anything else the naysayers throw.

C'mon - get a life and enjoy your days here. Let the folks have fun. One of my (very few) negatives about TV is the yada regarding exterior home fronts. We all tend to blend into each other esp with the color choices given. Thankfully we have some choices to customize our landscaping and such - within ARC of course. So some of us want a bit of fun and personalization of the mailslot fronts. As long as they are not offensive to a group - SO WHAT? Yes yes - we don't own them. c'mon - loosen up and groove a bit. And if you 'choose not to abuse' - leave yours vanilla.

For those that take it upon themselves whether in spite or boredom or 'holier than thou' to rip them off - please wait till I'm there so we can have a discussion about this topic. I know I wouldn't change your mind, but at least we could exchange views.

Has anyone asked their mail carrier?

I'm not opposed to the stickers. I haven't noticed a problem. I was just expressing some disagreement with the not-your-business comment.

If you care enough to wade through all the previous threads  I'm pretty sure the mail carrier position is stated.

Basically, no matter how many threads we have, there will probably never be agreement on a lot of Villages issues.

On one side we have the "rules are rules" folks who feel that all should be neat and tidy, that people must adhere to deed restrictions with no deviations for personal circumstances, and that any failure to follow rules will open the door to more and more infractions, and will negatively affect our wonderful, pristine surroundings.

And then there are the "don't sweat the small stuff" folks who feel that we should lighten up, be more relaxed, live and let live, we are here to have fun, if it doesn't hurt anyone, then MYOB, and understand the reasons if someone doesn't rigidly follow each rule.

And in the middle we have people like me who tend to boomerang according to the issue at hand. I probably lean toward the relaxed group, yet none of us want our beautiful paradise to deteriorate.

TheVillageChicken 08-18-2014 08:58 AM

Laissez faire

I just realized that I have spent more time reading this thread than I have spent at the mail boxes since I moved here last October. Having invested that much energy, it seems wasteful not to take a stand, and here it is:

1. I have no issues with those who put stickers on mail boxes.
2. I have no issues with those who pull stickers off mail boxes.
3. I have no issues with those who do neither.

TCGirl 08-18-2014 09:25 AM

To the person on another thread who wondered about the humidity and how people in The Villages cope with it, as do I wonder, this must be the answer--stay inside and debate harmless subjects on TOTV! If we buy, I will have to give much thought to the sticker/don't sticker issue.:jester:
