Some scooters go as high as 85mph. So for the purposes of this thread I would be beneficial for more info on the type, etc of scooters.

I find it interesting that golf crts can't go in excess of 19.9mph but an LSV can and can also travl the cartpaths.

Perhaps i am wrong but according to the information in the POA I thought I had red when a resident asked if the can give tickets on the carpath the sheriff stated that if they see a golf cart lacing continually between carts they will ticket that driver.

Marlene O'Toole inititative to allow the LSV relief for insurance purposes makes me wonder where that places golf carts that go in excess of 20mph as concerns insurance premiums, coverages ,etc.?

Has anyone spoken to their insuranc company regarding this subject?

Makes me wonder too. How long is it going to take the insurance companies to wake up to the fact they are insuring many unregistered motor vehicles? How will they handle a large claim when they discover the golf cart they insured is not a golf cart according to Florida statutes? Having a cart that is capable of exceeding 20 MPH is very risky

You're right about the 49cc. But any vehicle speeding in the county, anywhere, can get a speeding ticket and that also goes for a DUI.

I can't be sure, but I really believe a say a motorcyle cop on the multi-modal headed north from Colony Plaza on Morse!!!

Most of us have a car that will easily go in excess of 100mph but most major roads in TV have a speed limit of 35mph. No problem getting car insurance---I think you can easily see my point regarding cart insurance. My street has a speed limit of 15mph---you rarely see cars or carts traveling the speed limit. With most everyone speeding on both the streets and the cart paths, maybe the question should be----should the speed limit be raised? ;)

Should the speed limit be raised? I have a novel idea. Why not obey the speed limit as I think they are based on research as to what is safe for the existing conditions?

Are you sure that these Smart Cars that you are seeing are actually Smart Cars. There is an LSV that is sold at the Villages Golf Cart Man that looks an awful lot like a Smart Car.

Good point! A few months ago, I saw a golf cart for sale in Sam's Club that was a dead ringer for a Smart Car. Smart Cars are just small automobiles that are restricted to the same roads as any other automobile. If these Smart Car sightings in the "wrong" places are actual Smart Cars, and not look-a-likes, they may be cases of confused drivers making innocent mistakes.

Oh, BTW, I call these cars "dumb cars," because you may save a lot in gas, but if you ever get hit by another vehicle you won't feel very smart in your decision to buy one of those.

Yeah, I know, I have two motorcycles. But, I don't ride them to save on gas. If you have to ask why, you don't understand.

I think that was just me out playing policeman out on my mobility scooter.

Well now, that is some logical thinking. Agree with you, but will probably never happen.

You have even less chance of surviving a crash on a motorcycle than in a Smart Car, regardless of your motivation for riding one. Perhaps your motorcycles should be called "dumb cycles."
