If you are looking for a new mesh router setup, get the latest wifi 6e kind which will give you much better coverage and speeds and will give you the latest technology for years to come. More and more devices are using wifi 6 and the “e” gives you better wireless connectivity to the slave mesh routers

Just plug it into an electrical outlet on the other side of the house and you will be fixed up within moments. Impossible to goof up. No programming or wires to deal with.

This is the worst way to extend a network. It is very slow. In the houses I have rebuilt their networks, I’ve thrown those devices in the trash. These devices use a certain frequency band of your electrical circuit and each time you go through a wall switch or outlet you decrease network efficiency. Get a WAP and put it in the ceiling for better coverage mainly because it is wired to the WAP

I have an Xfinity (Comcast) router and it provides excellent wifi coverage throughout the house. They just increased my internet speed to 800 mbps, and I actually get that speed on all of my wifi devices.

I have a similar problem caused by the steel studs used in the villages homes. Sometimes all it takes is to move the router several inches one way or the other. If that doesn't help, you may need to buy a repeater for the wifi and place it somewhere it gets a strong signal from the base unit. Good luck.

That's :duck: nice. It worked for me. Took about 5 minutes and cost NOTHING. I'm not trying to run NASA just trying to help the OP. :1rotfl:

True, but MOST users don't care or don't even notice. One of our friends is on the 1 gig Xfinity tier and wonders why his iPhone 6 barely reaches 1 Mbps. :D

Network extender

If you want to increase the range of the network just buy a network extender and plug it in closer to the lanai. You then set up a second network on the router.

When you are out on the lanai you can connect to this second network

The one I have in the garage I set to the same network (SSID) so that I can move back and forth without needing to connect to a second network. Haven't had an issue yet.

Yes, I know the extender is a bit slower (though it does not send signals through the electrical wiring). I have configured it to not accept connections from the few devices that require faster speeds.

I think you have to call cable service & have them make that cable plug ( hook up) hot. Otherwise people could get cable boxes & have cable in every room! That’s why you have cable boxes in every room.

You don't need to call Xfinity to switch a cable on the splitter in the garage panel box. You can do this yourself. Just unplug one cable and plug another one into the splitter to serve a different cable outlet. To watch cable TV channels, you need to rent a cable box from Xfinity for each TV. Their boxes are encrypted so that you cannot get the Xfinity channels from a non-Xfinity box. If you rent additional cable boxes for additional TVs, Xfinity may need to increase the signal strength entering your house. So, a house with 4 cable boxes may have a stronger signal than a house with only one cable box. Some people with cable TV don't realize that they don't even need internet service to watch cable TV, unless their cable boxes are wireless boxes.

oldyeller wants to improve his wi-fi on the lanai.

It reminds me of an old reply I once got on TOTV'S and I deserved it. "I asked you for the time and you built me a watch."

Call Xfinity and get their booster for free. 1st booster is free. Plug it in and done.

oldyeller 11-02-2022 03:46 PM

I unplugged it from the front BR wall along with the splitter plugged it back in the LR cable outlet "POOF" easy peasy! Much ado about nothing!
