Cool Multi-Modal Path Stripping

For over a year now, I've been reading about the striping of the paths. Seems that some VCCD's are for it; other not. Therefore, we are getting striping in some areas of The Villages and not in others.

I don't understand the reluctance to make the paths a bit easier to navigate, especially during darkness. This is a relatively inexpensive enhancement for the sake of safety.

If someone can enlighten me, as to why this isn't a good thing, I'd appreciate it.

I agree, memason. It seems like a no-brainer. However someone(s) with considerable clout seem to not want it done. They are paying a small fortune on the purchase, destruction and constructing the El Santiago rec center but won't spend a few thousand to make our multi-modal paths a lot safer. It makes one wonder.

Agree. Seems like a good safety feature at reasonable cost.

Simple really someone with clout and the inability to get a golf cart between the lines is doing some politicing.

makes sense, many carts are well over the center line and going far faster than 20 mph. I wish Sumter would catch more speeders....win/win....the county gets more revenue and we get safer thoroughfares

Not sure what that statement has to do with striping ???

Some of the paths, north of 466, have stripes already....Duval, Hadley and Hemingway are getting them soon....

My wife wants to see color coding so it would be easier to stay on the Buena Vista, Morse or other "paths".

It's really hard for a newbie to read the signs at the ends of tunnels or other intersections, especially at night. Maybe color coding at least at intersections would be a good addition?

I take the paths up to Lopez once or twice a week and like the striping done on BV path up that way. A small measure that improves visibility and safety at a nominal cost. I would like to see it done in all districts for uniformity.

To my understanding and I may be wrong but the authorities don't enforce the 20 mph speed limit on the multi modal paths because they are private property and not a public highway, however if you are driving in a wreckless manner they can stop you for public safety? I've never seen sumter deputies on any MMP's conducting traffic stops.

I'm not sure there are enough "activists" for this issue who will take the lead to get groups of like minded residents to show up at the meetings on a regular basis. We have voices on TOTV but they should be consolidated to a voice at the meetings of the those that make those decisions.
