Default It is a mystery

Why is the golf cart lane on the Morse Blvd causeway across Lake Sumter sooooooooooo narrow. There is a 10 mile per hour speed limit for carts, but nobody observes it. There is no more than six inches between passing carts.

We just got our golf cart about 2 weeks ago and let me tell you, when I went over the Morse bridge, that was my first comment. This is way too narrow. You're on a roll today Jan. No pun intended! :joke:

The narrow cart trail over the bridge is very narrow. Sailor did most of the driving and everytime we crossed, he complained. Especially when the on coming carts drove down the middle.

It is narrow, but, if you slow down to something more like 10mph when you encounter oncoming traffic, it is very navigable.

But sometimes the person coming towards you doesn't slow at all! I go very slow in narrow and curving areas. I do not trust the person coming towards me. What a shame! If you are in such a hurry, take your car!! woohooo 07, Jan IS on a roll! And I'm not talkin' rok & roll!

Weird - This is one of Jan's musings that I agree with - too narrow for faster carts. Don't hang that leg out of the cart!

I think it's an exercise in hand/eye coordination. Keeps the old brain cells working by making you stay alert and vigilant.

I wrote a letter to the CDD about that issue about a month ago, and said that whoever designed that cart path over the bridge needs to get a different profession! And to make it look even dumber, is the fact that I have never (in over 3 yrs that I've lived here) seen 1 person walking on the sidewalk that's next to it, if they remove it there would be plenty of room for the golf carts to pass each other. Sorry to say, nothing probably will be done until someone gets really hurt by a head on collision, or falls out of their golf carts. I hope more people write a letter also to the "powers to be".

I'm curious, did you receive a reply to your letter?

Talk Host, Of course not! (probably it wasn't even read) Why is there a sidewalk there???? I said in my letter that it was a really dumb idea for that narrow golf path, so it must have "hit a nerve" ( I hope). I know a couple of people that have been seriously hurt from being thrown out of golf paths and that's why I'm very concerned .

I know that the developer is very open to suggestions and comments. I am absolutley positive that they will read your letter and give you a very thorough reply.

I believe that when it was being planned they looked at cost of nice wide lanes, then they looked at the well established Golf cart bridge that crosses Rte 27/441 near Spanish Springs and concluded money could be saved with narrow cart paths as long as a lower speed limit was posted. It certainly is adhered to on the upward portion of the bridge especially if you are driving an older (non-modified) golf cart.

Now we see higher speeds by all manner of carts, NEV's LSV and modified carts with the end result, the posting of this topic. So we might as well get used to it, as the roadway wont be widened

The Villages Florida

Smalldog sez this bridge is typical of TV Snafu's and their attitude toward fixing them
you can almost see the shrug and look of disdain and the " it's not my fault" attitude
nevermind just fix it and assess fault later on
also Typically why the Developer has such a good reputation with the residents :verymad:
:joke:
perhaps you need to stop at the happy hour at the square before attempting the bridge and hope that cart coming toward you hasn't been there getting happy :
