As far as I know no one has ever developed lung cancer from inhaling second-hand Old Spice or Hai Karate.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

smoke knows no boundaries and therefore there is no such thing as a non smoking area. if i have to cross a smoking area to get to a non-smoking area...well, what is wrong with this picture? your rights to do what you want to do end where my rights begin. in other words....no smoking ok?

You're hijacking this thread What does this have to do with litter on the cart paths?

So, I bought some disposable gloves and each morning I carry a bag and pickup the litter that I see. It makes me feel a lot better and hopefully, it makes our community look a little cleaner.

I'm suprised there is not a club for litter pickers. We do it now in our current neighborhood. You would be amazed at how much exercise you get walking and picking up litter. You will have help when we become frogs in March. Would be nice for villages to adopt areas for monthly clean ups and meet for brunch after.

My husband and I were driving to the Savannah center for an afternoon show the other day. We are driving along Morse Blvd. There is a small pickup truck with a lawn mower in the back. This guy tosses out a very large beverage cup and straw. Nearly hit our windshield. It rolled on to the graassy side to be added to the other litter we have been seeing. These service people come to make money here but don't care if they litter our grounds. So don't be surprized that anyone would intentionally litter.

Your original comment about "bad fragrances" was in response to someone saying that all outdoor smoking should be banned, so you're reply to me is just a little off target.
Nice try, though.

Today's tour of Lower Paradise in a golf cart.

I drove our golf cart from our home off 466 down Morse and crossed over to Buena Vista on Stillwater, played golf at Sandhill and continued down Buena Vista to the new Evans Prarie restaurant for lunch and came back up Morse and didn't see any litter. In the new areas there was dirt along the side of the road but the new area was the only place I saw anything but perfectly maintained roadsides. I was going along too quickly to spot cigarette butts, but I know they are there and until people stop smoking for one reason or another, they will be there.

Looked mighty fine to me...and you folks at Sanibel have vividly beautiful flowers at your entrance. They are prettier flowers than those at our entrance and I am jealous. :(

DEJA VU All over again

It doesn't seem all that long ago this same inane conversation took place, with the same "LOOKY LOO" tourists THAT DON'T EVEN LIVE HERE critiqueing the joint.

Once again, my thoughts on this situation...

I think TV is maintained beautifully. There are a few slobs, be it workers, smokers, drinkers or just pigs. It happens.

It's not always easy to live so close, sometimes it's not easy to respect the rights of others when they are in direct conflict with what you feel smug about. If you can't respect others then maybe this is not the place for you.

Serenoa 11-30-2012 05:45 PM

I guess we'll be "LOOKY LOO tourists" for real when we come down for our LSV in a couple of weeks. LOL Patty, we'll be sure & count how many butts we see on the ground & report back to you. K?

Seriously, I really expect we'll both be too busy gazing all around at the beauty & splendor of TV to notice a cigarette butt or two on the ground. At least I hope so.

I hope so too, this place is beautiful. Have you ever been here?

FYI-my post was not directed at anyone specifically.

Not to worry Patty, no harm done.

Nope, never been to TV.....yet. Didn't know it existed till sometime last February when I saw an article online about the fastest growing communities in the U.S., and I believe TV was #1. Have been fascinated about it ever since, and looks like we'll finally experience it all firsthand in just a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

I've noticed a terrible increase in trash thrown out of carts recently. We back up to Odell Cir and are seeing 3x-4x the tobacco related trash thrown in our yard/curb area in the last 45 days. As the dry season progresses, I'm worried the idiots will set my yard on fire. I've also noticed an increase in golf course discourtesy, i.e. a big increase of unrepaired ball marks and unraked bunkers.

I would get the license plate number and call the company to complain. Noting the time and place should give them a clue as to who it was. You could also report the incident to the developer. Being disrespectful of the community you work in is not good business.

did not want to hijack the thread further than beyond making my point. btw - my entire life has always been a little off target - and i love it that way - always an adventure!

There are many independent contractors working in TV. Many will not have any sign on their trucks. There is no reporting to the developer in TV. We live in three counties that are policed by sheriff departments in each....not much would be gained by bothering them over an empty cup thrown out of a window.
I went to garage sales from the southern most point to the north side today.
Did I see trash? Yes, it was most prevalent in the new construction areas. Within all the villages I was in, I saw 1 or 2 items that should not have been in the street.
To say The Villages is full of trash is a gross overstatement!!
To those who are seeing all this trash............why not stoop over and pick it up and quit whining.

buggyone 12-01-2012 06:38 PM

I have wondered why there are no trash receptacles along the multi-modal trails at various intervals. It would make picking up trash along the trails easier if there was a handy trash can along the path to put stuff into that is either blown out of carts or tossed out by someone who does not care.

Well now that is an outstanding idea, but then you have the problem of who will empty those receptacles and those dirty dang dog people wanting to put their bags of poop in there.

Not to mention the stop and going of golf carts will create a safety hazard. I think trash cans would not add to the landscape.

Thanks for your effort.

I come from Long Island so to me The Villages has a very small litter problem. I just like to pick up the items I see each day.

buggyone 12-02-2012 09:32 PM

I honestly do not think that a golf cart stopping at a trash can to drop off some trash would create a safety hazard. The dog poop is not a big problem since it is in plastic bags. As for emptying the trash cans a couple of times a day, there seems to be an abundance of residents who are looking for a part time job. There are currently plenty of residents who have a part time job around the town squares emptying trash cans. Just expand the jobs and hire a few more for the trails.

Just an idea - no need to "trash" my idea if you do not like it.

I disagree. We don't need more trash cans just more people to use the ones we have. People stopping along the cart path to throw out trash would be a safety hazard. Tie a small bag somewhere in your cart and throw it out when you reach your destination. How much trash can you generate while driving your golf cart anyway? Dog poop should never be placed in a public trash can.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 12-03-2012 10:52 AM

Are you people serious? Litter problem? I see very, very little litter here. In fact it is very noticeable whenI do see something because it is so unusual. Of course I came here directly from Manila which is like living in a trash container, but even still, I have lived in a lot of places in this country, and the Villages is if not THE cleanest it is one of the cleanest places I've ever been.

That being said people should not be discarding cigarette packs or soda cans or anything else any place except a proper trash receptacle.

jblum315 12-03-2012 11:46 AM

The litter I see here is so infinitesimally small compared to what I used to see in Westchester County NY, both on the local streets and the public highways. In fact, there was an elderly gentleman in my neighborhood who had apparently made it his life mission to pick up every bit of litter that he could find. We would see him slowly pacing the streets every day. winter and summer. I guess all that walking kept him healthy too, because he never missed a day.
