LIving in Mallory, I was waiting anxiously for the new gas station in Colony Plaza to open. Driving up to 466 to get gas in my golf cart was always a hassle. How disappointing it has been to find they want to charge 8 to 10 cents more per gallon for their gas, compared to those stations on 466. I guess that is why the station is empty most of the time. People are upset enough with the high cost of gasoline and aren't willing to get stiffed another 10 cents more per gallon for the same gas, regardless of the proximity.

Injun! I live very close (Duval) and I was so happy when it opened. I went there because I was really really low on gas and I couldn't believe the prices! But I was stuck. I think (hope) they'll become more competitive as more and more houses and possibly stations are built. But for now, I would just go in an emergency.

When you have no competition, you can charge what you want. This should change as soon as other businesses set up shop on CR466A once there's more consumers on this side of town.

Until then, they must think they can survive on the gasoline golf cart business.

If your buying gas for a cart I can see going even at the current price per gallon considering the time and travel to 466 stations.

If your buying for a car why not just go down 466A to the service station further down
towards 441. Much cheaper fuel prices.

Thanks for your input. I do utilize other stations for both the car and the cart. I was just disappointed that local Village owners of that station are sticking it to those of us who anxiously awaited their opening. Competition might force them to bring their prices down, that is if they stay in business long enough....that station (and the diner) are always empty. People won't forget should the station ever be forced to reduce their prices.

Why do you say "local Village owners" when you refer to the gas station? I'm sure I am overreacting but I tire of every situation being blamed on "local Village owner" as if the Morse family is trying to gouge you a dime on a gallon of gas. My bet is the station is not owned by the Villages at all. Perhaps I am wrong but that's the way I feel.

I'd pay the 10 cents a gallon gladly if I wasn't going to be in the area of the other stations on 466. The cart has a 6 gal tank, and if it were bone dry it's a 60 cent expense offset by the use of extra gas and a lot of time to go to the station further away.
That said, I would probably time my gas purchases with trips to 466 to Walmart or Crispers and save the money.

I'm not blaming the Morse family or even The Villages in general. The owners of the station are Village residents according to the Daily Sun and the point is that those of us on the Southern end of the Villages we looking forward to having a station closer to us. Gas prices are ridiculous enough right now and I feel it is insulting that they are trying to get and extra 10 cents just because they are located where they are. I love the Villages and this has no bearing on the Morse family at all.

Could it be that the above mentioned service station is serving up 100 percent gas and the others part ethanol??? Thusly, a price differential.

Where I live, Chevron and Shell are usually 10 cents or more higher than most other brands.

I get my gas further east on 466A in Fruitland or just north of Fruitland on highway 27/441. I have paid as much as twenty cents a gallon less at these gas stations than at the new Chevron in the Colony shopping center. That price differential is ridiculous and I will never buy gas at Chevron station. Perhaps they have to charge that much more because the rent in the Colony shopping center is very high. Regardless of reason I will never buy gas there and continue to go down the road a mile or two and purchase at a competitive price. Why would anyone pay as much as 20 cents a gallon more under the present conditions? Apparently others feel the same as I see few vehicle in this station getting gas.

Yep those are the stations I mentioned earlier in my posts. So it takes a little longer so what. Why would anyone want to throw away money. For every 5 bucks your throwing away a dollar.

My car takes 30 gallons. It takes over 100 bucks to fill. I am not gonna throw away 20 bucks.

I don't think it is this Chevron station in particular. I noticed the Chevron on 441 was $3.89 on Sunday morning -- $0.26 higher than the station by Albertson's. I know in California, Shell and Chevron had the highest prices with Shell about $0.02 higher than Chevron. Arco was usually the cheapest of the majors (and frequently cheaper than the "cheap" stations).

I think Mobil is the highest gas of all (is Mobil in Florida? I can't remember.). I'll drive a few miles to save some pennies...guess it's the principle of it all. I paid $3.95 a gallon today at BP while Mobil was charging $3.99. Four cents is four cents no matter how you look at it.
