I agree, but I dont admire their prices.....

New publix scheduled to open in winter 2014 close to the library--another one may be built on st. Rd.44. I work at publix-shop early in the morning-7am -10am-no crowds no matter what time of year.

Is there any competition for Publix? Down here near Ft. Lauderdale area there is Winn Dixie - but they aren't much competition. Only the Wal-Mart food store gives them a run for their money (lower prices).

Not comparing mind you - but on Long Island we had 5-6 large supermarkets generating a lot of competition.

How far is it to go to stores outside the Villages? Where is nearest Macy's, BJ's, Costco, etc. Have seen Lowes on travels.

Need a Brusters in the villages. Maybe I will start/open one when I get down there. Bring a truck to market night for extra sales.

Yes, I read that on the internet.

Brusters went out of business a few years back for lack of support !!!!!

You have to remember that TV just moved to south of 466A just about a year and half ago. Brownwood has just been open for business a few months-----and only a fraction opened. Patience is a virtue. There will be more commercial development and lots of it.

Most employees are courteous. I had one dingbat in the Colony store who had a screaming outburst there one one occasion last winter. She must have been having a really bad day. I complained to the manager immediately. The employee as reprimanded.

I have worked at a retail establishment at Colony Plaza. During the winter it is amazing there are not many more screaming outbursts by employees at the various stores. Having a really bad day during the "season" is normal when you work in The Villages. Where I worked it was amazing how the customers did not understand the concept of how to use the dressing room. Common sense and courtesy says you try on the clothes you have chosen and then neatly hang those you do not wish to purchase back on the hanger and place on the return rack outside of the dressing room. It's the polite thing to do to leave the dressing room clean for the next occupant. But come January it is amazing how so many women think the proper thing to do is leave the garment inside out in a heap on the chair which then overflows to the floor.

During the summer our customers are friendly and polite and a pleasure to deal with. But come fall and winter the customers are often rude and obnoxious and treat the clerks like dirt under their feet. Of course we rarely saw our regular summer customers because they know better than to go shopping during the "season".

I never actually had a screaming outburst but there were times I wanted to. It's not fun having a job in The Villages. I no longer do and life is much better.

We had heard this too but it seems to have gone very quiet.

There's a Sam's Club on 441 just north of the junction with 466. Most of the stores like Best Buy, Kohls, Lowes, Staples and all the big names are near there too.

Macy's and all other other big stores are at Paddock Mall in Ocala (not that far, just up I-75)

Hope that helps!

jblum315 12-01-2012 04:56 AM

Near the intersection of Rt. 441 and Rolling Acres Rd.(just north of Rt. 466) are Best Buy, Joann, Kohls, Michael's, Staples, Pier 1, Petco, TJMaxx, Sam's Club, Home Depot, Lowes and many others. Mostly not golf cart accessible.

Bill-n-Brillo 12-01-2012 05:53 AM

If you feel inclined to do so, you can park your golf cart on the west side of Rolling Acres Rd. and walk (or run!) across Rolling Acres or 27/441 to get to the stores.

Bill :)

Some of their employees who help with bagging and unloading into your car are mentally challenged.

I agree with JBlum that rarely in my life, even in Krogers left behind in Cincinnati, and a grocery I so enjoyed, did we find folks so constantly warm and polite as in Publix. It seems they employ a lot of seniors.

I have a confession. I LOVE to grocery shop and cook too.
