Default New Hospital...

Just a heads-up. Just published on the AHCA site was the decision to approve The Villages Tri-County Med Ctr. Certificate of Need (approved on 12/10/10). See excerpt below. Or Link to the published decisions page.

I. RECOMMENDATION:
Approve CON #10100 to establish an 80-bed acute care hospital in Sumter County, District 3, Subdistrict 3-7 in zip code 33785.

CONDITIONS:
(1) The facility‟s location as referenced in Exhibit L., which states that the acute care hospital (will be) on State Road 44 in Sumter County, Florida. Exhibit L references “Exhibit “A” on page 90 of the application which indicates that the facility‟s location will be north of SR 44 and east of Buena Vista Boulevard.
(2) A minimum of 7.0 percent of the 80-bed facility‟s total annual patient days will be provided to a combination of Medicaid/Medicaid HMO/charity and indigent/self-pay and underinsured patients.

Default New Hospital

According to the Sumter County New Development site (page 20) it will be east of the new town center and between 44 and 44A.

It's indicated on the map that surfaced a few days ago. Also noticed that it appears that ther first "subdivision" south of 466A will be up on Morse. Sort of surprised me as the Buena Vista infrastructure is further along than Morse. We live close to Seabreeze and have begun to use the southern extension of BV as if it had always been there. My wife's preference for the Speckled Butterbean sort of helps that decision point though and it's easier to get to I75 or the turnpike.
Noticing the speed of construction just south of Seabreeze makes one wonder just how long before they jump 466A.
Isn't it a dynamic atmospehere on the southern environs of the villages??

Default Key to Hometown atmosphere

This is fantastic, to have another Villages hospital opening soon! Hometown hospitals are key components of the hometown atmosphere we love here.

Smile New " Villages Hospital"

As a resident of The Villages I find it interesting we refer to these faciliies as "Villages Hospital"
Fortunately these facilities are open to all. Disapointed that only 7% of its'usage will be allocated to medicaid,
patients etc.

Wouldn't it be great if the Villages corporation supported the surrounding comminities more agressively.

The residents of The Villages, provide signifigant volunteer services.

Is the equipment being furnished by the hospital itself or are they seeking donations to equip it?

Central Florida Health Alliance's Foundation helps to equip as always.

This page clarifies what has already been "beating a dead horse" ad nauseum on other threads.

Not too far! Less than 10 miles down Morse, over to BV and down to the new hospital just short of Route 44.

Or a better way to put it - about 4.3 miles from my house in Buttonwood! Easy bicycle commute

I think TV corporation is "supporting the surrounding communities" just fine, by increasing the tax base by converting unused farmland and swamps taxed at almost zilch, to commercial and residential taxed many times higher.

"Last year The Villages increased Sumter County’s tax base by about $450 million." This is quoted on page 8 of the June 2010 Villages Homeowners Association Voice, in an article giving building permit statistics, at:
http://www.thevha.net/Village_Voice/June2010.pdf

I've read several times over the last couple of years how Sumter County has risen from being one of the poorest counties in the state, to among the richest because of TV increasing the tax base. Also, TV has done so while preserving and enhancing green space, with all the golf courses, new trees, vegetation, etc., and its model water conservation program. Many places could only dream of developers helping the surrounding communities as much, by generating hundreds of millions more in taxes for the whole county(ies).

Default As long as this one does not wind up like the new surgery center

across from the WAterfront hotel in LSL.

Or the intensive care hospital on 472 that has sat completed and empty for months on end.
