They used to have Rocky and the Rollers Play until almost 1
Am and the restaurant now occupied by Red Sauce let those with reservations go in and out to dance on the square. People would start placing long tables around the square starting at 3 am tne day before. Fights broke out over that. So the Villages decided
To ban that and instead they would rent tables instead to first. Come first served including non Villagers. Became a bigger controversy
And fights. The villages decide to punish everyone, like we truly are childen, by cancelling New Years Eve events past 9 pm forever more. That was about 15 years ago.

 Remember it well. The first year the Water Front Inn was open, we booked a room New Year's Eve. Less than 6 miles from our home North of 466. I feel residents did it to themselves..... as they usually do. Easy to blame somebody else. I didn't see the Developers on the Square fighting.......:boxing2: Lol

Make that three. Unfortunately, mine was a case of waking up at one. LOL.

It has always been that way - you need to make other plans for the 9-midnight timeframe. The squares are never open to that pandemonium.

I may be awake at 2 AM, but it would be misleading to say I was "still" awake.
I suppose if I am awake (again!) at 2PM I could take the opportunity to FaceTime my grandkids in Colorado on Mountain Time.

Is that the Sarasota driving range or the city of Sarasota? So, you are not in The Villages?

Courtyard villa in TV, a home in Sarasota County. Had considered full time retirement. After a few months I decided I was not ready yet. I also knew I did not want to go back to NYC. That is how I ended up in TV and Sarasota.

there are plenty of opportunities for partying into the wee hours. Just not for free at the squares.

When we moved here in 2009 as seasonal residents in the winter, we embraced the Villages lifestyle and understood that seniors do things differently sometimes. Not hanging out until midnight on New Year's Eve was one of those things and we were on board with that. I never did like being on the roads after midnight on New Year's night. You take your life in your hands and I think it is no different here. Happy to celebrate before midnight. We stay home and watch on TV and have done that for many years.

One year, we did stay awake until midnight and long after that too. We were in Las Vegas in 2000 and celebrated the new year on the main strip. It was fun and I will always remember that experience.

We were told by our real estate agent that their is a 9 pm curfew unless you buy a special pass from the developer.

I'm a night owl. I stayed up until 2 am or 3 am but then I do that almost every night. Actually some nights I'm up ALL night and go to bed at sunrise.
